4th visit of the outing: We arrived at this old pub in Chipstead, overlooking a scenic green and lake, just before 3pm to then meet up with two others also joining us on this outing, making us 9. This is a Harvey's house with three of their ales on, including one of my favourites, Harvey's Old Ale. Attentive, friendly service and a sizeable table and plenty of seating at the front of this sprawling old pub, which was formerly a row of cottages.

Harvey's - Old Ale (or Sussex XXXX Old Ale)4.30Excellent3rd beer of this visit: Very good head and lacing sticking to the end on this Lewes-brewed old ale. A spicy bitter first hit. A maltiness rising up alongside a good bitter note with flavourings of burnt sugars and roasted malts. Hints of dried fruit coming to the fore alongside the odd date or two clinging onto the Christmas tree's branches before their abseiling downwards.
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter4.00Good2nd beer of this visit: Good head and lacing and lasting on this Sussex Best Bitter from Lewes. A dry bitter first bite. A lightly fruited moreish hoppiness climbing up and prevailing aided by its a blend of four different local varieties. A good dry bitter note hanging on with all its might on the sleigh ride downwards.
Harvey's - Sisters Table Beer3.40Good1st beer of this visit: Very good head and lacing on this Sussex light bitter from Lewes and which was becoming thankfully the recurring theme of all the visits of the day. Its lacing held steadfastly on. A lightly fruited first hit. A hoppy bitterness climbing up with a good fruited note joining in. A dry but fruited bitterness lingering. It has been brewed in tribute to the remarkable women who have made invaluable contributions to Harvey’s over the years, and the brewery’s close association with the Seven Sisters cliffs.

It used to difficult to get here by public transport so I decided to try the new demand response bus system that operates in the Sevenoaks area. I arrived at Sevenoaks railway station and asked the app for a bus to Chipstead, I was offered one in three minutes and accepted that offer. I was amused by a sign which read "slow pedestrians crossing" as I can cross a road as quickly as the best of them. The pub was thriving with a good mix of wet and food sales. Well worth the effort of coming here. I tried the app again and was offered a bus to Sevenoaks in either 8 or 42 minutes, I chose the latter so that I could try the near by George & Dragon.
