My first visit here. Although it is a large pub, it was uncomfortably crowded early on a Saturday evening. I was unable to take note of the other beers available, but there were lots of them.
Rooster's - Astro | 4.30 | | Pale and very hoppy beer, featuring the lovely Galaxy hop. |

Very busy on a Friday late lunchtime. Secured just about the last table in the house.
Dow Bridge - Bonum Mild | 3.50 | | A proper East Midlands mild, ruby/black in colour with sweet malt flavours of caramel, liquorice and toffee. Very little hoppiness and a fruity finish. My score 17/20. |
Dow Bridge - D.B. Dark | 4.40 | | Stronger version of Bonum Mild but not as dark, with all the same attributes, e.g. sweet malty flavours, low hopping and a fruity finish. My score 17/20. |
Shottle Farm - 8/- Ale | 4.00 | | A dark red bitter with a good balance of malt and hop flavours with a slightly dry finish. My score 15/20. |
14 Apr 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Busy with diners, but found a table and joined them in the excellent and good value food served here.
Muirhouse - Magnum Mild | 4.50 | | Excellent black mild packed full of dark malt flavours; chocolate, coffee, liquorice, toffee, they're all there. No room for any hop flavours with all that going on. My score 16/20. |
Wentwell - Barrel Organ Blues | 4.50 | | Ruby coloured beer with some malt flavour but little in the way of hoppiness. Dry finish. My score 14/20. |
12 Nov 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
Fairly quiet late Saturday lunchtime.
Julian Church - Bat Out Of Ale | 4.60 | | Amber coloured premium bitter with good balance of malt and hop. Dryish bitter finish. My score 15/20. |
