Friday afternoon, we started in the right hand bar but quickly moved to the one on the left hand side owing to the noise from the juke box. We wondered why there was no publicity inside the pub for their forthcoming beer festival yet they have taken out a full page advertisement in London Drinker. Attentive service and the guv put a cask of N7 on specially for two members of our group.

The North Star has been voted the 2018 local CAMRA ‘Community Pub of the Year’ and I join around a dozen other CAMRA members for the presentation here tonight.

It’s early on a Monday evening and only the Saloon Bar is open. But it’s busy, there is a buzz of conversation and, so far as I can see, every customer is drinking cask beer.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Castle Rock - Harvest Pale3.80ExcellentAn old favourite, on very fine form here.

Evening drink after a grand day out in Stevenage. We sat in the, quieter, Public Bar. Quiet that is until some chaps came in and filled the juke box with coins for an evening of death metal, driving everyone into the saloon bar.
BeerABVScoreNotes

The pub is found in Leytonstone, Greater London, E11 3AR.

In Browning Road, this pub was established in around 1860 and is a nicely traditional house, with two bars, a few pavement tables and a back yard. It is tucked away off the high street in what locals call, without any sense of irony, ‘Leytonstone Village’. The pub sign and a lot of the interior decor features railway locomotives. But it is now widely believed that the North Star was in fact a ship on which the father of the first landlord, Frederick Wildsmith, had sailed. Local CAMRA branch Pub of the Year 2019 and 2024. In early 2024 The North Star, originally formed from two cottages and included on the inventory for its 1950s layout, reopened following what seems a substantial refurbishment. Local CAMRA branch Pub of the Year 2024.

We have visited this pub 6 times, seen 17 different beers and tried 8 of them.
