Our bus driver set his Sat Nav to take us to Troutbeck, but somehow, for reasons that I am not certain, we ended up here. It was only my second visit to this pub and the landlord remembered me by name, he also spoke well of Philip Pirrip and Michael Croxford who are contributors to this site.

Saturday lunchtime. We were second in and the pub soon filled up. One of the regulars brings food in on a Saturday and it is offered around freely the bar for a donation to Help for Heroes. The curry pie, butter pie and black pudding were excellent. The railway museum on the other platform makes this a really worthwhile visit.
Barngates - Pale Ale | 3.30 | | Lots of a taste for a low gravity beer |
Five Towns - Niamh's Nemesis | 5.70
Bowness Bay - Mere Gold | 3.80
Bristol Beer Factory - UPA | 4.50
Barngates - Red Bull Terrier | 4.80

A Saturday lunch time visit. My train arrived twenty minutes before opening time so I had time to enjoy a coffee and bacon butty in the famous Railway Refreshment Rooms before crossing via the subway to the pub. I was impressed with this place and had a good chat with the landlord who told me that he was very pleased with the help and advice that he had received from Colin Aris at the Conqueror in Ramsgate.
Cross Bay - Halo | 3.60 | | Pale and refreshing ale in very good condition. |
Fuzzy Duck - Golden Cascade | 3.80 | | Superb condition. Golden ale with citrus notes. |
Wyre Piddle - Piddle in the Hole | 3.90 | Not Tried
Kirkby Lonsdale - Monumental | 4.50 | Not Tried

The main purpose of today's journey was here, arriving just after half past six. Fine welcome from the guvs who have previously hailed from my own neck of the woods. Strangely Celia and Trevor were not clandestinely in residence and I was unable to find any married lady with grit in her eye needing my rogue doctor's attention - so be it ho hum. The hour's visit was soon up.
Dancing Duck - Abduction | 5.50 | | Just what the doctor (no not that doctor) ordered (he'd probably prefer Millstone True Grit). Full bodied lovely hop hit. Excellent mouthfeel and head retention |
Spitting Feathers - Basket Case | 4.80 | | Rather too malty and cloying for me and a bit flat |
Cross Bay - Dusk Ruby Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried | Pumpclip showed 4.5% but a star shaped outline emblem "Now 4%" |
