02 Oct 2019 (Stephen Harris)
Spur of the moment, late afternoon visit. I see that there has been a reduction to six in the number of handpumps on the bar counter.
Castle Rock - Harvest Pale | 3.80 | | A rather tired and warm pint. Just about acceptable. |
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Banks's - Young's London Original (was Bitter) - previously brewed in Bedford and at Wychwood | 3.70 | Not Tried
07 Sep 2015 (Stephen Harris)
Once a regular here, I had stopped going after suffering a run of poor beers, and there are plenty of other good pubs in the area. But I decided to watch the first half of the Scotland game here on TV. The pub has been refurbished and now has much more comfortable seating.
Wooden Hand - Somer Ale | 4.00 | | A golden beer with what I think of as a ‘corn’ taste, which I think comes from the use of low quality / cheap malt. I’m probably wrong on this and stand ready to be corrected. |
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried
Weltons - Sussex Pride | 4.00 | Not Tried
Banks's - Young's London Original (was Bitter) - previously brewed in Bedford and at Wychwood | 3.70 | Not Tried
Lincolnshire Craft (formerly Tom Wood's) - Melton Mild | 3.50 | Not Tried
16 Nov 2013 (Edbeck)
Busy with lots of reserved tables for the rugby
Jarrow - Westoe IPA | 4.60

Hackney - American Pale Ale | 4.50 | | Not particularly pale and not much evidence of American hops but a decent enough well balanced bitter all the same. My score 15/20. |
19 Jan 2013 (Martin the Mildman)
B&T (Banks & Taylor's) - Shefford Dark Mild | 3.80 | | Could be better than this, served a little too fresh I fear. My score 13/20. |
15 Jan 2013 (Martin the Mildman)
Muirhouse - Fully Fitted Freight | 4.00 | | Amber bitter with biscuity malt and subtle hop flavours. My score 15/20. |
29 Dec 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Quite busy on a Saturday afternoon.
Cross Bay - Aurora | 4.00 | | Amber bitter with a good balance of malt and hop and a frity finish. My score 15/20. |

Fairly quiet on a wet Saturday afternoon until the Rugby started then soon got busy.
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - Traitors' Gate | 4.50 | | Malty amber best bitter with biscuity malt dominating and a little fruity hop in the finish. My score 15/20. |
Isle of Purbeck - American Pale Ale | 5.00 | | Good citrus hop character to this pale ale with a good malty balance. My score 15/20. |
Milestone - Olde English Ale | 4.90 | | Dry, malty red ale with a yeasty, musty malt character giving slight bitterness. Hop character is low, finish is dry and tangy. My score 11/20. |
