Busy in the early evening rush hour.
Kirkstall - Ignore the Ignorant | 4.20 | | A golden-coloured Blonde. A well-balanced ale. |
Jaw Brew - Fathom | 4.00 | | A chocolaty Mild/Stout. Had none of the richness I recall from a previous occasion and in fact tasted a bit winey. Probably past its best condition. |
Sharp's - Doom Bar | 4.00 | Not Tried
St Austell - Tribute | 4.20 | Not Tried
London Brewing Co. (Bohemia) - Beer Street | 4.00 | Not Tried
Rudgate - Mr Jones Brixton Bitter | 5.30 | Not Tried
14 Jun 2017 (Stephen Harris)
The Southwark stood just outside the police cordon around Borough Market, so has been able to trade in recent days. Nevertheless it is very much part of the Borough Market Family tonight. Despite the line-up of cask beers, I opted for a three thirds sampler tray of imported Sierra Nevada keg beers from the USA.
Sierra Nevada - Tornado Extra IPA | 7.20 | | Big-hitting IPA, but lacking freshness. |
Sierra Nevada - River Ryed | 6.00 | | Rye beer. Spoiled by over-carbonation. |
Sierra Nevada - Peach IPA (2017) | 5.80 | | Initially sticky-sweet, more complex flavours developed. But a third measure not really enough to appreciate this beer. |
Sharp's - Doom Bar | 4.00 | Not Tried
Rooster's - Stars and Stripes | 4.30 | Not Tried
Bad Co. - Comfortably Numb | 3.80 | Not Tried
Portobello - Absolutely | 4.20 | Not Tried
St Austell - Skipper | 4.90 | Not Tried
22 Jul 2015 (Stephen Harris)
Pub very busy in the early evening – crowded both inside and out on the pavement. A comparatively pedestrian beer range here tonight (presence of the Champion Beer of Britain notwithstanding).
Timothy Taylor - Boltmaker (formerly Best Bitter) | 4.00 | | A malty, run-of-the-mill Bitter. |
Timothy Taylor - Landlord | 4.30 | Not Tried
Sharp's - Doom Bar | 4.00 | Not Tried
St Austell - Tribute | 4.20 | Not Tried
06 Jun 2014 (Stephen Harris)
Early evening and very busy. £4:25 a pint in here now.
Portobello - Black London Stout | 4.10 | | Near black in colour. Creamy head and creamy mouthfeel all through. Some roast malt flavours and some fruity tang. |
Sharp's - Doom Bar | 4.00 | Not Tried
Brakspear (at Marston's Wychwood) - Oxford Gold | 4.00 | Not Tried
Skinner's - Cornish Trawler | 3.80 | Not Tried
Harbour - India Pale Ale | 5.00 | Not Tried
09 Jun 2013 (Stephen Harris)
Relaxed atmosphere in here on a Sunday early evening.
Sunny Republic - Shark Head Friesian Pilsener | 5.00 | | I’m afraid that I didn’t think much of this one. A golden-coloured, cask lager. Over-chilled to the point of blandness. Any hops hard to detect. Had a metallic aftertaste. |
Sharp's - Doom Bar | 4.00 | Not Tried
Triple fff - Moondance | 4.20 | Not Tried
Brakspear (at Marston's Wychwood) - Oxford Gold | 4.00 | Not Tried
Broughton - Greenmantle | 3.90 | Not Tried
Lancaster - Lemongrass | 4.00 | Not Tried
30 Jan 2013 (Philip Pirrip)
Late evening. 2330 hours and still thriving presumably as inexplicably most other Borough Market pubs close at 2300 hours. A £4 pint hurts for a run of the mill ale though.
Tyne Bank - Silver Dollar | 4.90 | | Floral hop tones - American style |
Sharp's - Doom Bar | 4.00 | Not Tried
Brakspear (at Marston's Wychwood) - Oxford Gold | 4.00 | Not Tried
Leeds - Leeds Pale | 3.80 | Not Tried
Leeds - Monsoon | 4.50 | Not Tried
Great Yorkshire (see also Cropton) - Yorkshire Lager | 4.20 | Not Tried | "M&B Winter Guest exclusive". New brewery for me which is actually Cropton rebranded although the Cropton brands are still sold with their own name |
29 Dec 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Starting to empty out a bit after the Saturday lunchtime rush.
Sharp's - Winter Berry Ale (4.8% 2012 version) | 4.80 | | Ruby coloured and quite malty with sweetish berry fruit notes. A little hop bitterness in the finish. My score 15/20. |
26 Mar 2012 (Stephen Harris)
Very quiet by this pub’s standards, early on a Monday evening. Perhaps people have been put off by the recent price increases (£3:90 for my pint).
Kelburn - Red Smiddy | 4.10 | | A sweetish malty red ale that also has a citrus hop bite. |
Sharp's - Doom Bar | 4.00 | Not Tried
Copper Dragon - Black Gold | 3.70 | Not Tried
Brakspear (at Marston's Wychwood) - Oxford Gold | 4.00 | Not Tried
Otley - O12 Thai-Bo | 4.60 | Not Tried
Robinsons - build a rocket boys! | 4.00 | Not Tried
06 Sep 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
Adnams - Green Bullet | 4.60 | | Strong golden bitter with an assertive hop bitterness and some fruity citrus notes. My score 15/20. |
10 Aug 2010 (Martin the Mildman)
Highgate - Davenport's Strawberry Fields | 4.40 | | Rather sickly artificial strawberry flavour superimposed on a malty base beer. My score 13/20. |
