This pub was renamed the Thirsty Bear in around 2012 and now has more of a ‘sports bar’ feel, with individual digital screens on some tables. I last came in here in around 1983 when my father worked in the area. Given tonight’s offhand service and poor beer quality, I reckon it might be another thirty year gap before my next visit.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Windsor & Eton - Maracanã4.00PoorA cloudy orange colour. Poor-tasting beer that was almost ‘on the turn’. Some underlying fruitiness. In a more welcoming pub I would probably have returned this one. As it was, I failed to finish the pint.
Sharp's - Doom Bar4.00Not Tried
24 Mar 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
Busy with a quiz night upstairs and the Thursday Mild drinkers club downstairs.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Nethergate (was Nethergate Growler for a while then name reverted) - Priory Mild3.50ExcellentBlack mild with lots of rich malt flavours and a hint of liquorice in the finish. My score 16/20.

Our group had use of the upstairs bar this evening. Otherwise the pub was fairly quiet for a Thursday evening.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wolf - Wolf In Sheep's Clothing3.70ExcellentFruity and malty dark red/brown mild. My score 16/20.
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter4.00GoodSweetish with a slight grainy malt taste. My score 15/20.
