Afternoon visit from when the pub opened at a few minutes past 2pm, a fairly large group of us stayed for most of the afternoon. I noteced a poster for the Socialist Worker displayed in the bar. Currently three instead of the usual six cask ales on offer with COVID taking the blame.

I just popped in for one on passing but, as always seems to be the case here, stayed longer to chat to a friend who happened to be present.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Kent - Brewers Reserve5.00ExcellentPale. Very bitter. Citrus hop.
Goose Eye - Over and Stout5.20GoodInteresting to see others describe this beer as ‘dry’. I found it a bit sweet, with a lot of caramel in the flavour. Perhaps the recipe has changed.

The third pub of a pre-football pubcrawl and I get left behind here when the rest of the gang move on to the nearby Antic pub. I did not note all of the available beers.

Early Friday evening and starting to get busy. The landlord apologised for the limited cask beer range tonight. A third beer was called ‘Steam Beer’ but had no obvious brewery name on the clip.

A large, high street pub in Hoe Street which dates from 1865 and was rebuilt in its current, grand, late-Victorian style in 1892. By 2009 its fortunes were at a pretty low ebb, but it is much revived under new management and now a real community hub with a multitude of events taking place within its many rooms – not least of which being a well-regarded theatre company. Local CAMRA branch Pub of the Year 2018 and 2022.

We have visited this pub 16 times, seen 73 different beers and tried 34 of them.
