Late afternoon on a Saturday and the pub is quiet.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Flipside - Franc In Stein4.30GoodYellowish in colour and cloudy. A bitter-tasting wheat beer.

In theory this was just a quick visit whilst awaiting a 97 bus across the road. But I ran in to a friend here and stayed for 40 minutes or so in the early evening.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brentwood - Marvellous Maple Mild3.70GoodI haven’t seen much mild on sale yet this May, but this is a good ‘un.
RCH - Western Apprentice5.00AcceptableI didn’t greatly enjoy this beer for some reason – too fruity possibly.

Very busy, and there is a beer festival in progress with twenty-eight beers ‘on’ – I list just those I tried, plus a couple of others that are fairly locally-brewed. Always nice to come here and see such an obviously thriving pub.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Crouch Vale - Bravo4.20Excellent

Quantock - Wills Neck4.30GoodPale in colour, this is a hoppy pint but with a good malt base.
Upham - Stakes4.80GoodAn amber coloured beer with bitter and caramel flavours.
Fuzzy Duck - Ruby Duck5.30AcceptableSweetish and very red. No hops that I could spot.

It may look like I had a real skinfull here, but this was a Beer Tasting, hosted by Roger Protz, and some of the measures were smallish. A very well-supported and successful event; enjoyable too.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Crouch Vale - Amarillo5.00ExcellentCrisp, golden and hoppy. It almost goes without saying that this is an exceptional beer.
Redemption - Trinity3.00ExcellentGolden-coloured with a US hop aroma. Biscuity malt with a spicey hop bitterness and sweet malt in the finish.
Redemption - Fellowship Porter5.10ExcellentNear black porter. Big coffee and chocolate aroma. Peppery and spicey hops and a bitter aftertaste.
London Fields - Love Not War4.20ExcellentMy first sample of this beer from the new brewery location. Ruby red colour. Sulphury aroma from the water and good roasted barley taste with a peppery hop aftertaste. Described by Roger Protz as a “sensationally good beer”.
East London (ELB) - Nightwatchman4.50ExcellentDark ruby red in colour. Expresso coffee and chocolate aroma. Rich, burnt fruit, orangy hops, big malt finish. No hint of the sour notes I have detected in this beer before.
By The Horns - Bobby on the Wheat4.70GoodA cloudy, unfiltered wheat beer. Delicate, spicey aroma, soft and creamy texture. Quite dry.
Ha'Penny - London Stone4.50AcceptableStraightforward bitter. Spicy aroma, dry, bitter taste. Increasingly bitter aftertaste.
Arundel - Black Beastie4.90Not Tried
Potton - Shambles Bitter4.30Not Tried

Allendale - Wolf5.50GoodDeep red colour. Malty and very fruity.
Elland - Yorkshire Lager4.60GoodA clean, light, easy-drinking beer. Some flowery hops. A little too sweet for me.

We have visited this pub 16 times, seen 73 different beers and tried 34 of them.
