3rd and last pub of evening visit. Completed an evening of only flavoured beers.

Cains - Fine Raisin Beer5.00Exceptional5 star. Such a great balance of bitter and sweet. I suggested to the barmaid that the Olympic pool should be filled with this beer and just watch the water level fall!

This pub was very close to our hotel. It was busy so we sat on the stools overlooking the street. Nice pub I thought.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Cains - Finest Bitter4.00GoodMid brown easy drinking session bitter.
Cains - Bonfire Toffee4.30AcceptableBranded as being "dark and mysterious" or something. In fact it was the colour of a mid-brown bitter and tasted heavily of vanilla and toffee. Not a great flavour combination to be honest - but served in good condition.

First visit here, small bar, lots of rooms with lots of Cains ale on. it looked fairly empty but this was partly due to the size of the place.

Stopped off on my way back to the railway station and saying goodbye to Liverpool for another weekend.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brewster's - Red Hop Lover4.00AcceptableMid brown, thick beige head. Decent amber ale, ok hop on finish. Good in mouth. Love Brewsters. Malty aroma, but good solid hops on end. Decent caramel. It’s ok. Didn’t get better as I drank it.
Cains - Dark Mild3.20PoorMy first Cains beer in 4 days in Liverpool. Has element of a good mild of the past. This is hard toffee rather than good roast flavour. Poor compared to how it was.

Last stop on way back to Lime Street Station. Couldn't sit it the Victorian tiled room, so the next best thing is to sit on the bar stools opposite the bar looking at St George's Hall and gardens.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Cains - Finest Bitter4.00AcceptableTighter sparkler than normal, toffeeish, lacks normal aroma. Still got slight sting on finish. Too creamy in mouth for me. It's a good malty standard bitter with good hops on finish, but too tight on sparkler and too cold.

I just popped in to see what the Cain's July monthly seasonal was. Not overly busy, but still a lovely pub. I sat by the Liverpool Chess Society pieces and boards in the Victorian tiled room.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Cains - Sundowner4.60AcceptableAdvertised as having a touch of lemon. Gold, thin beige head. Grassy hop and some sickly citrus on aroma. More honey in mouth than anything else. Bit of toffee. Not a whole lot of lemon. A bit like a honey/lemon/toffee. some hop citrus on finish. Nothing wrong with it, just a bit bizarre.

Sprinkling of people sat in the Victorian tiled room. Three games of chess were going on. I sat by the fire with my feet up and in heaven. There was a student film studies crowd in and they seemed to be part of the Kevin Smith film appreciation society.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Cains - Finest Bitter4.00ExceptionalFresh cask just came on. Outstanding bitter. The malt/hop finish is awesome. Yeast, malt and hop balanced aroma. Great condition in mouth. And then this wonderful finish. Awesome.
Cains - Dark Mild3.20ExcellentToo cold maybe, but wow what a flavour. Good roasted malts. Just one of the best dark milds in the world. And it's a true mild, not harsh, just mild.
Cains - 2008 Ale5.00GoodCopper/gold colour with lasting thin white head. Some yeast on aroma, some sweet citrus. Just verging on pukey. Lager malt in mouth, soft in mouth, some fruit of the sweet citrus variety, strawberry aroma is actually relatively complex. The beer really opens up over time. Glad I had a pint of this. Aroma varies between malt, fruit and hop and yeast. Maybe a little thin on mouthfeel. Finish has sweet citrus fruit alcohol. Can't pigeon hole it. A strong golden ale? No, it's a bitter. Cool.

The pub is found in Liverpool, Merseyside, L1 1HF.

Cain's flagship pub until the brewery closed. And if you have been here on a Friday night, you can see why. OK it has a favourable position on Queen's Square, but the original Victorian parts of the pub including the tiled club seated room are magnificent. The beers are not bad too. Many guest ales and continental beers. You can sit at the bar and watch Liverpool life pass by with a back drop of St George's Hall (one of the best examples of neo Classical Victorian architecture in Britain) and the central Library/Liverpool Museum/Walker Art Gallery.

We have visited this pub 15 times, seen 14 different beers and tried 11 of them.
