Saturday night. I thought this was perfect, not too busy, we had seats and lovely beer. Unfortunately my friends thought it was dead and wanted to go to a bar with over priced bottled lager and loud music. Beer range as before.

Cains - FA5.00GoodI really like this for a strong ale. It reminds me in its effects of how Summer Lightning used to be. It isn't as floral and hoppy, but it has that easy drinking strong golden ale thing going on
Cains - Victorian Beer6.00AcceptableStill good dark red fruit malts

I was sat in the Victorian room (formerly the entrance hall to the Pearl Insurance building) with tiling all around, real fire and large comfy wooden chairs, overlooking the back of St George's Hall and Central Library on a bright sunny winter's day. I never wanted to leave. They also had on Cains Finest Lager (cask conditioned lager) and Cains Liverpool Lager

Cains - 2008 Ale5.00ExcellentBadged as 2008 Celebration Ale for the city of culture 08. Golden, thin white head. Some red berry, peach and apricot aroma. More fruit in mouth with apricot, pear drop and some sweetness. Finish has some hop bite. Really rather nice, strong and moreish
Cains - FA5.00GoodGolden with lasting white head. A well rounded Eglish golden strong ale. Slighty perfumed hop aroma. Full in mouth, slightly creamy. Syrupy fruit which underlies the pale malts. Satisfying and well made
Cains - Victorian Beer6.00AcceptableThis has been brewed during the winter for the past couple of years. Chestnut colour with thin beige head. Warm malt aroma, raspberry fruit and choc malts. Full in mouth. Some spice on end. Raisiny. Concentrated strawberry. Good warming winter beer. Could do with more hop to balance the malt

Sat in the restored Victorian tiled room in a comfy large wooden chair in front of the real coal fire. Excellent range of Cains beers as well

Great pub renovated just off Queen's Square in the heart of the city centre. Smallish bar offering Cain's range and a couple of guests plus plenty of smaller rooms situated around the building. The best is the Victorian tiled corner room with leather and wooden club chairs and a real fire
BeerABVScoreNotes

Situated on Queen's Square so ideal for central Liverpool, this restored Victorian building (superb tiling in one room) is Cain's flagship pub. Full Cain's range plus 2 guest beers and also guest continental beers. If you want a pint in the centre of Liverpool, this is the place to go.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Cains - Finest Bitter4.00ExcellentCains is a staple of Liverpool. But they don't exploit their position or reputation. This is a fantastic session bitter, with good hops, malt and something else you can't put your finger on. Very drinkable. I should know I've drunk enough of it
Cains - Dark Mild3.20ExcellentRich, burnt malt gives this mild structure and character. Cains usual taste, but a big taste for a 3.2 mild

The pub is found in Liverpool, Merseyside, L1 1HF.

Cain's flagship pub until the brewery closed. And if you have been here on a Friday night, you can see why. OK it has a favourable position on Queen's Square, but the original Victorian parts of the pub including the tiled club seated room are magnificent. The beers are not bad too. Many guest ales and continental beers. You can sit at the bar and watch Liverpool life pass by with a back drop of St George's Hall (one of the best examples of neo Classical Victorian architecture in Britain) and the central Library/Liverpool Museum/Walker Art Gallery.

We have visited this pub 15 times, seen 14 different beers and tried 11 of them.
