Amazed to see that it is three years since I was last here – a pub that I once used a lot. Always a good place to come to marvel at the collections of drink and cigarette advertising ephemera – on a par with the wonderful Museum of Brands, Packaging & Advertising that I visited in Ladbroke Grove a few days ago.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Skinner's - GTA3.80GoodThis beer formerly had the name ‘Ginger Tosser’. It was never a ginger beer (I believe the name referred to somebody’s hair colour). It’s actually a honey-flavoured beer that has good hop flavours too. Enjoyable.

Evening. Friendly bar staff. Feast your eyes on the nostalgia of yesteryears' beer and fag artefacts.

My first visit here. Very impressed. Old school Guvnor. Wonderful collections, breweriana, cigarette advertising and bizarrely soap powder packets. Quiet when we went in but soon got busy.

Quiet in the late afternoon, before the rush. Interesting signs on each table saying “No laptops. No formal meetings. Please do not treat this pub as your office”. Two or three more real ales were available than I have remembered for the list below.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Milestone - American Pale Ale4.60ExcellentOn a short pub crawl where the beer did not exactly hit the heights, this stood out as a good, crisp, hoppy pint.

Surprisingly quiet for a Tuesday evening.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Naylor's - Velvet Premium Mild4.00AcceptableToo dry and bitter for a mild, hints of burnt toffee and a rather unpleasant bitter finish. My score 13/20.
28 Nov 2012 (Stephen Harris)
I popped in here for a quick pint as I was early for meeting a friend at another pub just around the corner. Very pleasant here.

Emptied out a bit after 9pm.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Milestone - Honey Porter4.70GoodBlack in colour with the dark malt flavours rather overpowering any sweet honey notes. Rather thin tasting with a slightly burnt finish. My score 15/20.

Always busy in the after work period, mainly with legal profession types. the collection of vintage pub advertising in here deserves national heritage status.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Elland - Maximum Darkness4.30ExcellentA black, marvellously rich, smooth, chocolatey, porter-type beer with roasted barley undertones.
Fat Cat - Stout Cat4.60GoodBlack (at least it appeared black in a dark pub), smooth, fruity sort of stout, with a little roast barley taste.
