Amazed to see that it is three years since I was last here – a pub that I once used a lot. Always a good place to come to marvel at the collections of drink and cigarette advertising ephemera – on a par with the wonderful Museum of Brands, Packaging & Advertising that I visited in Ladbroke Grove a few days ago.
Skinner's - GTA | 3.80 | | This beer formerly had the name ‘Ginger Tosser’. It was never a ginger beer (I believe the name referred to somebody’s hair colour). It’s actually a honey-flavoured beer that has good hop flavours too. Enjoyable. |

Crouch Vale - Brewers Gold | 4.00 | Not Tried
Lancaster - Black | 4.50 | Not Tried
Windsor & Eton - Canberra | 4.00 | Not Tried

Evening. Friendly bar staff. Feast your eyes on the nostalgia of yesteryears' beer and fag artefacts.
Portobello - Market Porter | 4.60
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | | At the fruity end of the Sussex Best Bitter taste range so rather sickly |

30 Apr 2015 (HSB)
My first visit here. Very impressed. Old school Guvnor. Wonderful collections, breweriana, cigarette advertising and bizarrely soap powder packets. Quiet when we went in but soon got busy.

29 Jan 2014 (Stephen Harris)
Quiet in the late afternoon, before the rush. Interesting signs on each table saying “No laptops. No formal meetings. Please do not treat this pub as your office”. Two or three more real ales were available than I have remembered for the list below.
Milestone - American Pale Ale | 4.60 | | On a short pub crawl where the beer did not exactly hit the heights, this stood out as a good, crisp, hoppy pint. |
Crouch Vale - Brewers Gold | 4.00 | Not Tried
Oakleaf (now see Fallen Acorn entries) - Stokers Stout | 5.00 | Not Tried
Nethergate (was Nethergate Growler for a while then name reverted) - Edgar's Pale Ale | 3.50 | Not Tried | House beer. |
21 Jan 2013 (Martin the Mildman)
Surprisingly quiet for a Tuesday evening.
Naylor's - Velvet Premium Mild | 4.00 | | Too dry and bitter for a mild, hints of burnt toffee and a rather unpleasant bitter finish. My score 13/20. |
28 Nov 2012 (Stephen Harris)
I popped in here for a quick pint as I was early for meeting a friend at another pub just around the corner. Very pleasant here.

11 Sep 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Emptied out a bit after 9pm.
Milestone - Honey Porter | 4.70 | | Black in colour with the dark malt flavours rather overpowering any sweet honey notes. Rather thin tasting with a slightly burnt finish. My score 15/20. |
03 Aug 2012 (Stephen Harris)
Always busy in the after work period, mainly with legal profession types. the collection of vintage pub advertising in here deserves national heritage status.
Elland - Maximum Darkness | 4.30 | | A black, marvellously rich, smooth, chocolatey, porter-type beer with roasted barley undertones. |
Fat Cat - Stout Cat | 4.60 | | Black (at least it appeared black in a dark pub), smooth, fruity sort of stout, with a little roast barley taste. |
Crouch Vale - Brewers Gold | 4.00 | Not Tried
Skinner's - Keelover | 4.20 | Not Tried
Mad Squirrel (formerly Red Squirrel) - Redwood Colorado American IPA | 5.40 | Not Tried
