Evening visit of respite after the slow Elizabeth line visit all stops from far south east to far west. So very waiting roomish here - could be so much more done to make it a local go to pub too.

Not my first visit here, but my first visit since Fuller, Smith and Turner bought it. Not too busy in the afternoon but I imagine it becomes very hectic in the evenings.

A quick pre-train pint. Pub much smartened since acquisition by Fullers.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Uprising (sub-brand of Windsor & Eton) - All Day Pale2.70GoodGolden, juicy and hoppy. At this strength, it is not surprising that it lacks a bit of body.

Evening. Great stuff - pub's website says closes 11pm but at 2231 a sentinel at the front door said the pub had closed at 2230 and always did on Mondays. He could show me no opening hours notice and when I asked a barman he said the pub was closing early as there were lots of travellers in!!

11:30 Half an hour to spare at Reading station so thought I would look in the Guineas. All beers Fuller's. I took one look and turned and left. I have seen this so many times before, the purveyors of bland beer buy a thriving pub with a reputation for a good choice of micro-brewery beer and then completely change the concept and kill what made the pub popular. A great shame.

17:50 On way back from Newton Abbot realised that arrival time at Reading would allow a connection with the Guildford Cross Country service that uses the recently re-opened Reading dive under. This place provided an excellent waiting room. Busy outside in the sunshine, quieter within.

Evening on a previously unplanned change of train. Pleasantly surprised by the beer range. A customer after me complained to bar staff that he could never see the same beer twice on separate visits.
