Early evening quiet on arrival but more customers appeared shortly after.
Shepherd Neame - Spitfire (or Spitfire Amber Ale) | 4.20 | | Very happy to give 4 stars for this |
Shepherd Neame - The Faversham Steam Brewery - Whitstable Bay Pale Ale | 3.90 | | Bland enough for my taste buds not to detect any flavour with this one |

As the Golden Ball was still shut, I came here for a pint. Well I say a pint, but it was well below the pint level. Quite busy for a Sunday with lots of people enjoying the carvery.
Shepherd Neame - Late Red | 4.50 | | Better than I've had it over the past few months, lovely rich fruits. |

Sunday lunchtime and the carvery I thought was excellent. Really nice tender meat carved in front of you and of course, you can have as much as you want. Also there is an oldish guy playing a good range of music on a keyboard, rather than the usual musak. The pub itself is ok, but as it was winter you couldn't sit in the garden, which I like.
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | | Yep, this had all the usual characteristics, Sheps yeast aroma, some nice full caramel malt and some pretty nice tight hop. Fine session bitter. |

My second stop on my Shepherd Neame pub tour of Kennington (Rose Inn was the third one). There was a carvery going on for Sunday lunchtime and it looked good. There was an old bloke playing a tinny organ banging out lounge music. So I ventured out into the garden, only to find speakers pumping out music too. Oh dear. I sat by the fountain hoping that the water would drown out the music.
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | | Only half a mile from the Golden Ball, but this lacks the malty depth of the first pint I had down the road. Decent caramel on aroma, some hop. Thinner in mouth. Faint hop on end. Drinkable, but the Golden Ball pint beats this easily. Hops are still good though towards the end of the pint |

First pub visit of 2006 for me. I quite like this. Bit corporate, but an hotel bar is as good a place as any for some anonymity and a quiet table to read a book.
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | | Not quite as fragrant and hoppy as it can be. Some yeast, some caramel and some flowery hop. I had two pints without really noticing |

Spent the last 2 evenings trying to find a pint of Goldings in Sheps pubs, but failed. However, it did mean that I could try this pub out for the first time since it moved from Fullers to Sheps. Lots of wood in evidence in the refurbishment and the bar/restaurant opens out onto the patio and terrace which is pleasant in the warm weather. Arrived early evening with the tail ends of a wedding reception on the patio. Service was fast and efficient and the beer actually tasted quite nice!
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | | Amber brown beer. Sheps yeast and floral hops on nose, some caramel in mouth with yeasty tangy hop and acid finish. For the first time in my beer drinking life, I can actually say that I like this beer. Good for a session |
