Visits Details
20 Sep 2016 (Philip Pirrip)
Late evening visit prompted by this site's scribe, the Venerable Harris, and his recent visit. A pub I went off when its prices became unreasonable - they seem more London normal these days or I have become more tolerant!
Adnams - Cashmere IPA | 4.70 | | Not sure what I'd get with lemon, gooseberry and coconut mentioned on the pump clip. In fact a refreshing subtle blend, no way in my hated lemon juice category at all |
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00
Jennings (since closure now brewed at Marston's) - Cumberland Ale | 4.00 | Not Tried
Harvey's - Southdown Harvest Ale | 5.00 | Not Tried
Marston's - EPA | 3.60 | Not Tried

Upham - Furlong | 4.60 | Not Tried
18 Sep 2016 (Stephen Harris)
In theory just a pit-stop after a train journey from Hastings to London Bridge, but it was so unusual to find this pub quiet that it was a pleasure to linger for a while.
Elland - South Sea Pale | 4.10 | | Great stuff – golden and hoppy, with orange flavours. |
Loddon - P.O.T.U.S. | 4.70 | | Quite a full-bodied, Golden Ale. |
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried
Jennings (since closure now brewed at Marston's) - Cumberland Ale | 4.00 | Not Tried
Harvey's - Southdown Harvest Ale | 5.00 | Not Tried

07 Jan 2016 (ChrisE)
Start of the evening peak and very busy indeed. In addition to the beers that I have listed there was something called Market Porter Cornish IPA.
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00
Cottage - Duchess | 4.20 | Not Tried | Selling well in here tonight. |
Intrepid - Porter | 4.00 | Not Tried
22 Dec 2015 (Stephen Harris)
Packed-out venue for pre-Christmas drinks with Robert from Horley and Dave from Peterborough. Luckily they had got there early and bagged a table in the back room. I did not note the wide range of cask beers available.
Empire - Twisted Melon Blonde | 4.10 | | Golden. Full-bodied and well-rounded and a touch sweet. Lemony/fruity hop flavours and coconut. |
Beartown (latterly part of Manning Brewers) - Pale Zesty Bear | 4.40 | | Unsurprisingly, given its name, this turned out to be pale and zesty (and rather hazy). |
Dawkins - Resolution IPA | 5.30 | | Amber/brown in colour. A strong Bitter – not really a full-blown IPA in my book (but what do I know?). Not at all bad. |
03 Jun 2015 (Stephen Harris)
Good weather means the large crowds are mostly located outside, and Wednesday night is biker night around here, so there are lots of gleaming machines to admire.
Marston's - Single Hop: Belma | 4.00 | | Nice hoppy beer. Unfamiliar hop tastes. |
Rudgate - Brew No. 16 Stars & Stripes | 5.20 | | Amber-coloured. US hops. Assertive malt. Nice. |
G2 - Vela Blonde | 4.20 | | Pale gold. I didn’t like this much – odd, clashing tastes. May have been suffering an infection. |
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried
Weltons - Magog | 4.10 | Not Tried
Binghams - Coffee Stout | 5.00 | Not Tried
Salopian - Divine Comedy | 3.90 | Not Tried

Lytham - Berry Blonde | 4.10 | Not Tried
14 Dec 2014 (Stephen Harris)
Early Sunday evening visit on way home from Hastings. One of the more relaxed times to visit this notoriously crowded pub.
York (now brewed by and at Black Sheep) - Terra Nova | 3.80 | | Brown, full-bodied, Best Bitter. |
Langham - Christmas Cracker (2014) | 4.80 | | Quite heavily-spiced, brown beer. The recipe for this beer varies from year to year. I was detecting lots of cinnamon and maybe some ginger, but, fortunately, no cloves (which are the work of the Devil). |
Beowulf - Finn's Hall Porter | 4.70 | Not Tried
Wentworth - The Full Malty | 5.10 | Not Tried
Loch Ness - Red Ness | 4.20 | Not Tried
Wychwood (now brewed at Banks's) - The Market Porter Winter Ale (house beer) | 4.50 | Not Tried
Harvey's - Christmas Ale | 7.50 | Not Tried
Springhead - Outlawed | 3.80 | Not Tried
Sunny Republic - Winter Warmer | 5.00 | Not Tried
