Early evening- stop 4. Not too busy, dark but comfortable. Tried to order a flight of 3 ales - but was told I had to have 5 - bit much when they only had 4 ales on.

Friday lunchtime-a contemporaneous entry. I’m here, enjoying the beer, the good choice of subtle music through the decades (Beatles, Lionel Richie and my all time favourite- for the day - It’s Friday, I’m in Love). Just picked up the excellent book “Much Drinking in the Marsh” by Keith Swallow. It is a very good read.

I mostly sat puzzling over why I couldn't recognize anything despite enjoying a visit a few years ago - I now realise why. There was a glut of crisps to eat, numerous bowls full having been put out for a brewery visit that turned out to be not due until next week.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - Foundry Torpedo4.50ExcellentA well-hopped, golden Bitter. Very bitter in fact. Just my thing.
Canterbury Brewers - Foundry IPA5.60ExcellentAnother bitter, golden beer. This time lifted by US hops.

Mid evening, empty in the main bar however a private function was in full swing in the other. My first visit since relocation, much more spacious feel to it alas I miss the gallery area in the old place.

Afternoon, festive. My first visit to the new premises in Stour Street - part of the building that was the original Foundry cafe in the seventies - ah, such memories. Larger premises with two areas - bar area as you enter with a refractory style eating area off to the right with a view into the brewery. I often found the previous location rather austere and unwelcoming- first impressions of this are much better.

My first visit here since it moved location. It's bigger but full of Christmas party people so probably not that representative of what it's usually like.

Two of us were on a tour of Canterbury which should originally have been Broadstairs but disruption on South Eastern Trains caused a change of plan. We popped in here for a farewell visit before the pub closes on 7 October and relocates to nearby Stour Street with a reopening planned for 13 October. I have not listed all the beers on offer.

Brewery tap for Canterbury Brewers. The brewery is inside the building and may be viewed through an internal window. Upstairs and ground floor bars with the latter always open. 7 handpumps sported in each of the 2 bars. Substantial discount on real ales for Card carrying CAMRA members - at April 2013 this was 10% on own brewed beer - ask if there is a discount on food too as this is allegedly 10% too. Consists of two bar areas - one downstairs adjacent to the brewery and another up some steps to a mezzanine level. Originally located in White Horse Lane near the Cherry Tree pub. In addition to its excellent home brewed ales the pub is getting a reputation for tasty and good value food. Moved in October 2018 to a new location in Stour Street "lock stock and barrel".

We have visited this pub 144 times, seen 99 different beers and tried 74 of them.
