Early Saturday lunchtime. Thought I’d give this an another go - rather wish I hadn’t. “Wait to be seated - even if only having drinks” still proclaimed in the entrance. I was shown to a table and given a beef menu. With Torpedo now at £6.30 a pint I walked out letting the staff know the reason. Just a tourist rip-off joint now in my opinion. Shame as I like their beers. Didn’t note all beers on.

9th and final visit of the outing: Lovely beer it did offer but a hark-back to those dreaded Covid-times because while it misleadingly has a bar in place, you cannot get served at it which rather defeats its object you would think. One in our party waited a good few minutes at the bar and became rather peeved to have been ignored. Yes, there is signage as you enter saying table service only but not that big you might notice it when walking in. It was packed inside this barn of a place with drinkers and diners combined but all seated at tables. We made do with a table or two or should it be more accurately described as a couple of old upturned wooden barrels to put our beers on in the entrance area and there were not enough seats for all of us so we took it in turns. Could not see that you could just stand and drink inside of it. Once I was issued with a beer menu inside at the bar, I retreated to the couple of barrel-tables at its entrance to then get served and for our early evening visit. They do take cash but do not carry change so the staff then have to ferry the cash in, to then come back out again the full-length of the barn-like building with your change. This must keep them extra fit. The beer itself made up for the somewhat bizarre policy of ordering drinks at a table only. A CAMRA discount can be had but nothing to remind you of this on their laminated beer menus. All cask beers are brewed on site alongside their KeyKeg beers.

Canterbury Brewers - Foundry Torpedo4.50ExcellentVery good head and lacing and lasted throughout this amber bitter's fine performance in my glass. It did an even better performance on my taste buds! A very bitter and mildly malty first bite. A moreishly dry hoppy bitterness truly tantalising my mouth's every taste bud. Not called Torpedo for nothing as the tasting notes tell you it is explosive due to its American Cascade and British Bramling Cross hops. So moreish, I actually did another half to cap it all!

Early Tuesday evening. “Please wait to be seated” sign as you enter and very much discouraged from walking about - I went to look at what was on the pumps but was told that everything was on the beer menu. But the beer menu had beers that weren’t on. Torpedo is now £5.50. Table service only. This is really no longer a pub in my view.

Mid to late evening and busy as expected with a mixture of all ages. We found the perfect table able to accommodate us close to the bar. I've only listed what I drunk.

Afternoon visit, fairy quiet at this time but they appeared to be getting ready for a busy evening. The guv confirmed that the Kent Green Hop Festival is planned to go ahead this year and that a web site should be up and running in a few weeks time.

Late afternoon- bumped into an old acquaintance and had a very enjoyable hour or so catching up. Bit disappointed that their own cask ale is now £4.90 a pint - must be the high transport costs from the brewery. Only 2 cask ales on.

Brewery tap for Canterbury Brewers. The brewery is inside the building and may be viewed through an internal window. Upstairs and ground floor bars with the latter always open. 7 handpumps sported in each of the 2 bars. Substantial discount on real ales for Card carrying CAMRA members - at April 2013 this was 10% on own brewed beer - ask if there is a discount on food too as this is allegedly 10% too. Consists of two bar areas - one downstairs adjacent to the brewery and another up some steps to a mezzanine level. Originally located in White Horse Lane near the Cherry Tree pub. In addition to its excellent home brewed ales the pub is getting a reputation for tasty and good value food. Moved in October 2018 to a new location in Stour Street "lock stock and barrel".

We have visited this pub 146 times, seen 100 different beers and tried 74 of them.
