A handful in watching music videos on a big screen. I think this pub reminds me of a French tavern in Normandy with all its dark wood and straight edges. Anyway, I like it.
Greene King - XX Dark Mild | 3.00 | | Reminded me of the dark mild I used to drink in the student union in Plymouth 25 years ago. Virtually no hops and just a reedy, watery, taste. |
Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Greene King - Morland Old Speckled Hen | 4.50 | Not Tried
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried

Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Ripple Steam - Farmhouse Pale Ale | 4.20 | Not Tried
27 Nov 2016 (Jack William)
Sunday lunchtime - a few in, some chatting, some watching F1. Thought I would try again as Channel Draught mentioned it - 4 ales on but rather unadventurous in the choice still.
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | | As hop-laden as usual. |
Greene King - XX Dark Mild | 3.00 | | Smooth, good body for a low abv. |
Cotleigh - Barn Owl Bitter | 4.50 | | OK but lacking in something. |
Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%) | 3.40 | Not Tried

Early Sunday lunch - sprinkling of locals in.
Wantsum - 1381 | 3.80 | | A lovely, fresh citrus ale with a nice bite - made me long for Spring. |

Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried
Wantsum - Black Prince | 3.90 | Not Tried

Sunday lunchtime - a bar full of locals.
Change of landlord about 4 weeks ago apparently - Mark - ex regular - good luck to him.
Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%) | 3.40 | | New barrel. |
Hardys & Hansons (see now and use Greene King for new entries) - Olde Trip (reduced from 4.8%) | 4.30 | | Bland with little life.

11 Jun 2015 (Jack William)
Busy with jolly locals.
Skinner's - Cornish Knocker Ale | 4.50 | | good condition and full bodied - a little sweet of my liking though. |
Oakleaf (now see Fallen Acorn entries) - Quercus Folium | 4.00 | | Only a taster but it seemed interesting - very dry - disappointingly I believe that the Latin name just translates to "oak leaf" que sera sera. |
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried
25 Dec 2014 (Jack William)
Lunchtime - busy - very festive
Littlehampton (formerly called Anchor Springs) - Rip Tide | 4.10 | | A ruby coloured beer - fruity. |
Freeminer - Bitter | 4.00 | | Pleasant enough if a little bland - hints of vanilla. |
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried

Not a planned visit on a four pub Canterbury crawl tonight - but finished in the Cross Keys, Oaten Hill. No entry added for that pub as it is does not serve real ale. Disappointingly it was the liveliest and busiest of my 4 with plenty of twenty somethings who seemed oblivious to this major failing in a pub. After a half of fizzy cider I had to restore my faith and the King's Head didn't disappoint: busy and lively and a choice of four ales on.
Harvey's - Southdown Harvest Ale | 5.00 | | Not as hoppy as expected from Harvey's but this really grew on me and I had to drag myself away. Mmm nice finish for a mid-week jaunt. |
Wantsum - Green Hop Challenger | 4.50 | | I think it was this "green hop" - very good hoppy flavour and excellent condition. |
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried

After work - a few in, nice welcome.
Goddards - Wight Squirrel | 4.30 | | Malty, good condition - nutty flavour - or is that just auto suggestion from the name? Only a blind tasting will confirm. |
Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried
White Horse - Wayland Smithy | 4.40 | Not Tried
