27 Jun 2022 (Magnus Greel)
Met up here with a recently retired colleague for a relaxed and pleasant stay which included a reasonable and tasty lunch. Very quiet just a couple of others inside and double that in the secluded beer garden.
Hopdaemon - Green Daemon | 5.00 | | Full bodied yet light and easy drinking citrusy nectar. |
Bedlam - Smash | 4.20 | | Malty with hints of tropical fruits. I do wish breweries wouldn't use meaningless yet fashionable acronyms the average punter wouldn't understand. |
Adnams - Broadside | 4.70 | Not Tried
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
23 Feb 2022 (Jack William)
Afternoon- on my way to Craven Cottage. Hopefully to tick off a couple of heritage pubs on the way. Quiet but pleasant in here, good beer choice.
Kent - Session Pale | 3.70 | | I do like Kent ales. This in superb condition. |
Adnams - Broadside | 4.70 | Not Tried
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
Oakham - Citra | 4.20 | Not Tried

Just 2 others in upon our arrival around 16.30 however standing room only when we left 3 hours later. This could quite easily fall into the 'craze pub' category should I ever become devoid of imagination!
Hopdaemon - Winter Ale | 4.20 | | Aniseed and blackcurrant hints made for a flavoursome ale negating the need for a higher ABV more common amongst this genre. |
Wadworth - Horizon | 4.00
Robinsons - Trooper | 4.70
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried

11 Dec 2021 (Jack William)
Just after opening Saturday lunchtime - half a dozen people in and getting busier - always has a good buzz to this pub. Good ale selection.
Hopdaemon - Christmas | 4.40 | | Chalked up as “Xmas Ale 4%” I’m not sure if this is the same beer. But it was very good and seasonal. |
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
Butcombe - Rare Breed (or Adam Henson's Rare Breed) | 3.80 | Not Tried
Robinsons - Trooper | 4.70 | Not Tried

Soon after opening time, we were informed that the lines had just been cleaned. Our Bath Gem turned out to be Kent Session Pale Ale, and after asking the cellarman to check the lines he agreed that the two pumps had been connected the wrong way round. I have done that myself so not a problem, the barmaid offered to take the beer back and change it for what we ordered but I hate to see beer go to waste so I drank it.
Kent - Session Pale | 3.70
Robinsons - Trooper | 4.70
Bath Ales - Gem Bitter | 4.10 | | I think this was last knockings. Hazy with a thick yeasty head. |
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
25 Nov 2021 (Magnus Greel)
Mid evening relaxed comfortable atmosphere as always here just the soft background noise of folk conversing. One of my favourite pubs in Canterbury convenient for the nearby Bahnhof.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Black Pearl Oyster Stout | 6.20 | | Smooth creamy nectar with roasted coffee bean on the palate. |
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
Bath Ales - Gem Bitter | 4.10 | Not Tried
Robinsons - Trooper (superseded by 4.7% version) | 4.80 | Not Tried
19 Nov 2021 (Jack William)
Afternoon visit - heaving - until a group of 11 left - then a bit quieter.
Exmoor - Stag (superseded by 4.8% version) | 5.20 | | Replaced the Harvey’s. |
Robinsons - Trooper | 4.70 | | Couldn’t fault it. |
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | | My friend thought this was ok until I pointed out that it was opaque. Rapidly replaced - as was the barrel. |
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - She Sells Sea Shells | 4.70 | Not Tried
30 Sep 2021 (Archie14)
Steady afternoon visit in this wonderful old unspoilt boozer.
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | | Say what you like about Shepherd Neame but in a world flooded by hazy, sour beers flavoured with candy and god knows what, IN my honest opinion a well kept pint of Master Brew is hard to beat if what your looking for is a pint of proper quaffable, session hoppy bitter. Served in excellent condition here. |
Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - The Wife of Bath's Ale | 3.90
Butcombe - Original | 4.00 | Not Tried
01 May 2020 (Jack William)
Are we allowed take-away entries?
Laurie the landlord is doing a takeaway service from the front door at £2.50 a pint. No choice and served in old plastic milk containers but very welcome all the same. I stood and stared longingly into the interior while my half gallon was drawn.
Hopdaemon - Session Ale | 3.80
