Live football on TV and the pub is crowded – with nobody seemingly very keen on budging up to accommodate newcomers. Friendly welcome from behind the bar though.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Seasider | 4.30 | | Pale and refreshing. Seemed the appropriate choice on a hot day at the seaside. |
Elgood's - Black Dog Mild | 3.60 | Not Tried
Adnams - Southwold Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
Banks's - Young's London Original (was Bitter) - previously brewed in Bedford and at Wychwood | 3.70 | Not Tried

Afternoon visit. I ordered a mild before I noticed that all bitters were on offer on Wednesday afternoons, and would have been cheaper than my mild.

I knew they'd have a mild on here and indeed they did. It was busy. We sat and watched "Har" play "Bre" on Sky and tried to guess who "Har" and "Bre" were. We got "Har" right!

I had a bit of time to kill while waiting for a mate to get to Whitstable, so I grabbed a paper and came here. This is a great pub, with a fantastic atmosphere. I am always left thinking how much better it would be with a more interesting beer lineup. Oh well...
Elgood's - Black Dog Mild | 3.60 | | Yup, really good as usual. Black with roasted malt and chocolate. Good beer. |
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried
Brains - SA | 4.20 | Not Tried
Adnams - Southwold Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried

Really busy when we got here at about half seven, managed to grab a seat towards the back though. Came here before heading to see a band at the old neptune hoping for a good pint to start the evening. It was not to be unfortunately.
Smiles - Old Tosser | 4.30 | | This is not a good beer. Sweet with a slight toffee flavour, but that was it. I think dishwater would be a fair dexription of this beer. |
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried
Brains - SA | 4.20 | Not Tried
Adnams - Southwold Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried

Had a wander around Whitstable for no real reason. It would have been rude not to stop in for a pint. Really busy for around 4 on a saturday. Great, lively atmosphere.
Elgood's - Black Dog Mild | 3.60 | | Rich, chocolatey with a fair amount of roasted malt. How do they get so much flavour into a 3.6? |
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried
Batemans - Valiant | 4.30 | Not Tried

I took Cam and Libby to Whitstable for the morning to enjoy the terrible weather. After a rapid walk around town and along the sea front we came here for a beer. The welcome was very friendly (we were offered free welks and prawns etc. and shown where we could hang our coats up to dry). It's interesting to have been at the 2009 Kent CAMRA pub of the year yesterday (The Butcher's Arms in Herne) and in 2008's winner today.
Elgood's - Black Dog Mild | 3.60 | | This is why I came really. It was fine but a little one dimensional (just strongly burnt malt). |
Hook Norton - Old Hooky | 4.60 | Not Tried
Batemans - Jester IPA | 3.50 | Not Tried
Adnams - Southwold Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried

After a series of rubbish bus journeys I eventually arrived at Whitstable and met Ian here. The staff and locals were friendly and the beer excellent.
Moorhouse's - Black Cat Mild | 3.40 | | Roasted malt with initial flavours of sweet molases quickly replaced by strong bitter roasted flavours |
Elgood's - Black Dog Mild | 3.60 | Not Tried
Adnams - Southwold Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
Rooster's - Wild Mule | 3.90 | Not Tried

Lovely looking pub, then once inside the staff were all very friendly as were the locals. This pub single handedly restored my faith in whitstable.
Everards (see entries against Joule's & Robinsons whilst its new brewery was being built) - Pitch Black | 4.30 | | It’s dark brown in colour with an aroma of roasted malt. The flavour is also mostly roast with some smokiness and bitterness on the finish. Not bad at all. |
Highgate - Irish Whiskey Ale | 4.60 | | The aroma is sweet with notes of fruit, hops, and malt. The flavor is sweet fruity combined with light notes of whiskey and smoke. Pretty good beer. |
Elgood's - Black Dog Mild | 3.60 | Not Tried
Adnams - Southwold Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
