I took Cam and Libby to Whitstable for the morning to enjoy the terrible weather. After a rapid walk around town and along the sea front we came here for a beer. The welcome was very friendly (we were offered free welks and prawns etc. and shown where we could hang our coats up to dry). It's interesting to have been at the 2009 Kent CAMRA pub of the year yesterday (The Butcher's Arms in Herne) and in 2008's winner today.

Lovely looking pub, then once inside the staff were all very friendly as were the locals. This pub single handedly restored my faith in whitstable.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Everards (see entries against Joule's & Robinsons whilst its new brewery was being built) - Pitch Black4.30GoodIt’s dark brown in colour with an aroma of roasted malt. The flavour is also mostly roast with some smokiness and bitterness on the finish. Not bad at all.
Highgate - Irish Whiskey Ale4.60GoodThe aroma is sweet with notes of fruit, hops, and malt. The flavor is sweet fruity combined with light notes of whiskey and smoke. Pretty good beer.

Here with Jane for the CAMRA Kent Pub of the Year Award ceremony. It was busy with both locals and CAMRA members and after the speeches the price of beer was knocked down to £1.60 a pint!
BeerABVScoreNotes
Arundel - Castle3.80ExcellentI wasn't sure about this for the first few sips but as I got into it the leafy hop flavours really appealed to me. Plenty of that standard Arundel core taste. An excellent beer
Elgood's - Black Dog Mild3.60GoodMilky cold coffee. Very smooth.
