The pub is found in Bethnal Green, Greater London, E2 9LH.
This pub, in Cambridge Heath Road, was present by 1802 and could be even older. Rebuilt in the late-Victorian era, it was traditionally an Ind Coope house. Very much a locals’ pub in later years, it was noted for the quality of its draught Guinness but shunned real ales. It also benefitted from busy nights when there was boxing at the nearby York Halls. Closed in early 2015; but re-opened a few months later as a stripped back to basics pub specialising in craft brewery beers – with three handpumps on the bar. There is a small entrance lobby with intact, colourful and ornate tiles featuring wrens and dormice. Removal of an ugly modern name board on the fascia has revealed a lovely old mosaic strip with the pub name.
We have visited this pub 11 times, seen 16 different beers and tried 10 of them.
