Mid-evening and not crowded. Just one cask beer on the bar today.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Purity - Bunny Hop3.50GoodA pleasant, pale, hoppy beer.

Changing from bus to tube outside and, spying that it was not too crowded, decided to pop in here for a quick pint.

Late-evening. Lots of chaps with shaven heads and loose-fitting tracksuits – there must be boxing at the York Halls tonight.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Big Penny (formerly Truman's) as of late 2022 contract brewed - Zephyr4.40ExcellentA full blast of hops, almost shocking after a couple of weeks on milder stuff.

Homeward bound and I had planned a quick glass at Mother Kelly’s, but it was rammed in there. Came here instead and stayed to watch some of the England v Portugal match (which turned out to be incredibly dull).
BeerABVScoreNotes
East London (ELB) - The Dundee Arms Anniversary Ale4.20GoodA pleasant Pale Ale.
Big Penny (formerly Truman's) as of late 2022 contract brewed - Lazarus4.20AcceptableNot a great beer. Lacking a hop presence and tasting a bit of cheap malt. Not sure how it differs from this brewery’s ‘bottom of the class’ beer Swift.
Dark Star - Sunburst4.80Not Tried
10 Mar 2016 (Stephen Harris)
Evening. I watched the end of the Spurs game and the beginning of the Liverpool game in here over a pint. Busy. Another all-London cask beer range, but this time an all-east London one.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Signature Brew - Black Vinyl Stout4.20ExcellentA smooth and fresh, black Stout, with a roasty edge.

I caught the last half-hour of the Spurs game on TV here. A largely un-partisan crowd also watching.

A distinctly more relaxed atmosphere than my last visit here (no skinheads tonight!).
BeerABVScoreNotes
Siren Craft - Liquid Mistress Red IPA5.80ExceptionalHaving turned down this luscious Red IPA at the Kings Arms earlier this-evening I’m very pleased to see it here. It is necessary to have two just to confirm how exceptional a beer it is – my second 5-star beer of the day.
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's)3.40Not Tried

Mid-evening. Boxing tonight at York Halls, a bouncer on the door here and the crowd is distinctly more geezer than hipster, all the beards and woolly hats having fled around the corner to Mother Kelly’s.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Five Points - Hook Island Red6.00ExcellentProper headbanger stuff – I had to have two to be sure.

The pub is found in Bethnal Green, Greater London, E2 9LH.

This pub, in Cambridge Heath Road, was present by 1802 and could be even older. Rebuilt in the late-Victorian era, it was traditionally an Ind Coope house. Very much a locals’ pub in later years, it was noted for the quality of its draught Guinness but shunned real ales. It also benefitted from busy nights when there was boxing at the nearby York Halls. Closed in early 2015; but re-opened a few months later as a stripped back to basics pub specialising in craft brewery beers – with three handpumps on the bar. There is a small entrance lobby with intact, colourful and ornate tiles featuring wrens and dormice. Removal of an ugly modern name board on the fascia has revealed a lovely old mosaic strip with the pub name.

We have visited this pub 11 times, seen 16 different beers and tried 10 of them.
