Desperate Journalist at the Scala, so time for a few liveners. Fairly quiet when we arrived just before 5 but pretty full by the time we left. Good atmosphere.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wantsum - Montgomery (was SS Richard Montgomery)4.00GoodReally nice IPA style beer. There were another 6 handpumps on but I was too busy to note them.

Hour to kill at Kings Cross and had never been here. Very busy at 8.30 on a Saturday. Nice pub.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Big Penny (formerly Truman's) as of late 2022 contract brewed - Gunboat Smith5.20ExcellentNot particularly hoppy for a black ipa but that suits me tonight. Rich and viscous, just a tip top stout in my book.
31 Oct 2016 (Stephen Harris)
Early evening. To my surprise, this pub has doubled in size since my last visit by expanding into the next door premises. The new area is branded the Wine Stores and has its own bar counter, but tonight is proving a useful overspill area for the beer drinkers. Other beers as listed by Jack William.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wingtip (brewed at Andwell) - Autopilot3.50AcceptableAn amber-coloured beer described as a ‘Blonde’. Flat condition impacting on taste.

Mid-afternoon visit. Quiet. This may be Time Out magazine’s Pub of the Week, but the hoards have not descended quite yet. I did not note the wide range of cask beers available.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canopy - Sunray Pale Ale4.20ExcellentA hazy golden beer. Full-bodied. Fruity hops and a bitter finish.

I’ve been attending a conference nearby and refresh in here in the early evening before heading up to Islington to meet a friend. I imagine that Jack William and I must have passed here without knowing each other.
BeerABVScoreNotes

My first visit here since it ceased to be the Flying Scotsman, now a really good pub if a trifle expensive but at least there is no one pestering you to put £1 in a jug any more. An enjoyable visit to what is now a welcoming pub.

The pub is found in Pentonville, Central London, N1 9DU.

The Scottish Stores was present at the southern end of Caledonian Road by 1880 and was rebuilt in its present form in 1901. In the late-20th century it was renamed the Flying Scotsman and earned its trade as a strippers’ pub, its interior sealed off behind thick curtains. A change of direction came in 2015 and in December the pub re-opened after a careful restoration and back under its proper name. The focus is now on beer. The building is Grade II listed, with a beautifully-tiled exterior and a well-preserved interior. There are three small, wood-panelled bars and an Arts & Crafts feel to the décor. A roof garden is expected to open in the summer months. The pub had an association, through its landlord, with the Ripple Steam Brewery of Deal, Kent until that closed in early 2019. 8 handpumps in the front room. 10% discount for card carrying CAMRA members. Added to CAMRA's National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors in summer 2019.

We have visited this pub 24 times, seen 58 different beers and tried 24 of them.
