04 Nov 2010 (Ray)
Quickly got busy.
Orkney (Sinclair) - 3 Sisters Scottish Ale (Atlas range) | 4.20 | | Mid-brown slightly malty, slightly hoppy ale. Nothing too demanding in a GK sort of way. |
Deeside - Beltane | 4.00 | | Another light golden ale. Slightly sweet. Little in the way of hops but a metallic hint - maybe the use Saaz? Strange to see a Spring seasonal in November. |
Inveralmond - Moorings Ale | 4.20 | Not Tried
22 Oct 2010 (Ray)
Busy.
Fyne - Vital Spark | 4.40 | | Very dark almost black beer with surprising burst of autumn fruits in the mouth. Short satisfying finish. |
Fyne - Maverick | 4.20 | Not Tried
07 Oct 2010 (McGargle)
Busy.
BrewDog - 5AM Saint | 5.00 | | Well this time I really enjoyed it. Resinous hops, full malt and intense fruity finish. Later beers seemed tame by comparison. |
Inveralmond - Thrappledouser | 4.30 | Not Tried
Orkney (Sinclair) - Wayfarer IPA (Atlas range) | 4.40 | Not Tried
Inveralmond - Lia Fail | 4.70 | Not Tried
Inveralmond - Moorings Ale | 4.20 | Not Tried
22 Sep 2010 (McGargle)
Busy late evening. Apparently they'd been presented with CAMRA's town Pub of the Year earlier. Well merited but it would be even better if the Moorings reduced its reliance on ales from Strathaven, Houston, Orkney and Inveralmond. There are lots of other fine Scottish breweries.
Burnside - Wild Rhino | 4.50 | | Light straw colour, shone in the glass. Summer fruit aromas with light citrus flavours and smooth malt. Satisfying finish. |
Houston - Peter's Well | 4.20 | Not Tried
Strathaven - Old Mortality | 4.20 | Not Tried
Inveralmond - Lia Fail | 4.70 | Not Tried
25 Aug 2010 (Ray)
Busy but, as none of the ales really appealed, we quickly left.
Orkney (Sinclair) - Raven Ale | 3.80 | Not Tried
Inveralmond - Thrappledouser | 4.30 | Not Tried
Inveralmond - Moorings Ale | 4.20 | Not Tried
15 Jul 2010 (Ray)
Surprisingly quiet. Guess the students are on vacation.
Swannay (formerly Highland) - Island Hopping | 3.90 | | Poured a light straw colour with a loose white head. Initial exciting burst of floral hops on the nose and in the mouth well balanced with a soft maltiness. All spoiled by phenolic hints in the finish. |
Orkney (Sinclair) - Latitude Pilsner (Atlas range) | 3.60 | Not Tried
Swannay (formerly Highland) - Orkney Best | 3.60 | Not Tried
Inveralmond - Moorings Ale | 4.20 | Not Tried
01 Jun 2010 (Ray)
Busy again.
Deeside - Talorcan | 4.50 | | Deep ruby read with long lasting beige head. Enticing chocolate and roast aromas followed though to the taste. Long lasting, smooth, dry finish. |
Orkney (Sinclair) - 3 Sisters Scottish Ale (Atlas range) | 4.20 | Not Tried
Inveralmond - Moorings Ale | 4.20 | Not Tried
26 May 2010 (Ray)
Busy. Good range of beers.
Fyne - Piper's Gold | 3.80 | | Golden ale with long lasting off white head. Citrussy aromas, good hoppy flavours and drank stronger than 3.8%. Long, satisfying finish. |
Orkney (Sinclair) - 3 Sisters Scottish Ale (Atlas range) | 4.20 | Not Tried
Deeside - Talorcan | 4.50 | Not Tried | Shame to miss this but I was in the mood for lighter beers tonight. |
Inveralmond - Moorings Ale | 4.20 | Not Tried
21 May 2010 (Ray)
Busy. Lots of rockers in - would have been a fun night if the ale selection had been better. Houston, Strathaven, Sinclair and Inveralmond seem to make up the core range these days - not bad but there are many more interesting Scottish breweries to choose from.
Houston - Peter's Well | 4.20 | Not Tried
Orkney (Sinclair) - Red MacGregor | 4.00 | Not Tried
Inveralmond - Moorings Ale | 4.20 | Not Tried
12 May 2010 (Ray)
Mostly regulars in the bar.
Orkney (Sinclair) - Raven Ale | 3.80 | | Floral aromas carried through to the first taste which became sharper. Thin, almost watery, mouthfeel and dry, astringent finish. |
Houston - Killellan | 3.70 | Not Tried
Inveralmond - Independence | 3.80 | Not Tried
Inveralmond - Moorings Ale | 4.20 | Not Tried | Special for The Moorings. Probably a blend. |
