Downton - Port Stout | 5.20 | | Black stout with good hop character, roast malt and a good fruity, vineous finish from the port. My score 16/20. |
Triple fff - Pressed Rat & Warthog | 3.80 | | Pressed Rat actually, quite a bitter modern mild with some roast malt and quite high hoppiness for a mild. My score 15/20. |

06 Jan 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
The venue for my 50th Birthday celebrations with plenty of mild flowing including a special brew.
Moorhouse's - Black Cat Mild | 3.40 | | Smooth and black with dark chocolate and liqourice flavours. My score 16/20. |
Little Ale Cart - Steel City Martin's Fearless Sorachi Mild | 5.00 | | Dark brown, almost black in colour. Superb smooth dark chocolate malt flavour starts things off, then the pineappley Sorachi hops move from providing the aroma to providing a background to the malt action. Probably the only beer I have sampled where Sorachi hops don't spoil the flavour of a beer (in my opinion of course). A takeaway sample that I drunk 2 days later had even more malt flavour with a little smokiness emerging and the Sorachi fading slightly. My score 15 intially, rising to 16/20. |
Mad Squirrel (formerly Red Squirrel) - Hertfordshire Old | 5.00 | | Red/brown beer with a bittersweet flavour, some hoppiness and some biscuity malt. Dryish finish. My score 15/20. |
Backyard - Pipin | 4.80 | | Black stout with a very dry roasty character. Rather thin for its strength with little hop backup to the roast malts. My score 15/20. |
Redemption - Hopspur | 4.50 | | Darkish bitter with good balance of hop and malt leading to a dryish finish. My score 15/20. |
Art Brew - Hip Hop Centennial | 4.30 | | Pale and very hoppy with a very bitter flavour. Little malt balance so just a little too intense for me. Very dry, bitter finish. My score 13/20. |
04 Jan 2011 (Martin the Mildman)

Mighty Oak - NYB11 | 4.20 | | Pale bitter with good citrus hop flavour and good balance. My score 15/20. |
Salopian - Hollybush Winter Ale | 5.50 | | Now shown as 5.0%. Pale dry hoppy strong bitter with little malt character and a very dry finish. My score 13/20. |

Burton Bridge - Money Maker | 4.50 | | Very bitter with little malt character and one dimensional hop bitterness that is not to my taste. My score 11/20. |
16 Nov 2010 (Martin the Mildman)
Ascot - Anastasia's Double Vanilla Stout | 5.00 | | Two scoops of vanilla in this specially for the Wenlock. Gives an intense vanilla flavour, some sweetness, but the roasty stout comes through as well. My score 16/20. |
Rebellion - Short Seller | 4.30 | | Amber coloured with good hop and malt character to give a well balanced bitter. My score 15/20. |
