Popped in for a half with Mr. H and sat outside in the sun. Linda recognised me which was nice, especially as I've not seen her for years. I like this pub; it's a good 'un.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wye Valley - HPA (Hereford Pale Ale)4.00ExcellentPale gold coloured beer. Excellent tea flavoured hops with some grassy flavours too. Interesting tangy sharpness there too. A very drinkable beer.

Walked here from The Dolphin, didn't remember it being this far! Almost empty with just one table of people eating food.

Popped in with Adrian for a pint and sat out on a bench at the rear. Glorious day; sun shining; birds tweeting; beer flowing. This is still an excellent pub but I do miss Keith behind the bar.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Rother Valley - Level Best4.00ExceptionalGolden yellowy-brown beer. Poured with a huge amount of creamy-bubbles (so tight sparkler I guess). Fantastic beer. It smelt of wonderful grassy meadows. It tasted of buscuity malt with hints of mellow orange peel and with a lovely strong leafy (slightly mottled grapefruity) hop that just stayed in the mouth. This was one of the best pints I’ve had, ever. Could have drunk it all day. Wish I had.

I love this pub. It's so friendly. Don't know why I don't come here more often. Lots of people in eating chips and someone had lamb and mint sauce by the smell of it.

Mid Saturday afternoon and quiet. Linda is still a lovely landlady and some of the most interesting beers in the city.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Itchen Valley - Winchester Ale4.50AcceptableNice rich malts, some choc, bit of berry fruit, earthy hop finish with faintish tingle on tongue. A little bit of puke actually and an odd flavour.
Wem (formerly Hanby) - Black Magic Mild3.30AcceptableDeep chestnut, lasting thin beige head. Some decent malts, some dark fruits. Nice malts, almost whisky-ish. Fine.
Robinsons - Dizzy Blonde Amarillo Pale Ale3.80AcceptableGold with thick lasting white head. Robinson’s distinctive yeast aroma, some orangey citrus, dusty hop finish. Never a fan of Robinson’s. Orange citrus finish is tasty. Thin malts in mouth. Nothing wrong with it, just a bit dull. Finish is good though.

Had half-an-hour to kill waiting for a lift from Jane. Spare half-an-hours were designed for visiting the pub, so I did. The outside has been redecorated since I was last here but the inside was as cosy as ever. This is a good pub.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Rother Valley - Copper Ale4.10GoodCopper brown colour. Soft mouth feel with a subtle mellon and malt flavour with a mellow mineral-hop finish.
Rother Valley - Well Sprung4.30AcceptablePale caramel coloured beer. Burnt brown sugar flavours at the back of the mouth with a slighly metalic-sweet taste on the sides of the tounge

Bit quiet late Saturday afternoon, but a nice quiet corner pub with good mix of locals. Usually an ever changing list of 3 guests.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Batemans - Autumn Fall4.20GoodDeep chestnut/mahogany colour with lasting beige head. Fully juicy malt in mouth, bt of toasted malt on end. Hop is evident on end, bit spicey. Warming pleasant dark bitter. Some dark fruit/malt on aroma. Spiceyness is very pleasant. Pretty good autumn beer.
Old Mill - Halloweeen Surprise3.90AcceptableHazy copper/orange with lasting bubbly off white head. Mild inoffensive bitter. Bit of spice on end. Some orange/satsuma fruit. Quite full and juicy in mouth. Not sure where the surprise is.
