Swore I would never come back but the ratings for the beer festival have been good here so stopped in for one.
Phoenix - Double Gold | 5.00 | | OK strong golden ale. |
Brains - Honest Ale | 4.50 | | Gold, slight haze, lasting beige head. Toffee caramel bitter, it's ok if a bit to much on the caramel for me. Some dryness on finish. |
07 Apr 2010 (Pedro)
Actually beers here are £1-95 as opposed to £1-89 at Society Rooms. But finished upstairs where I was charged £2-10 when I bought a pint rather than thirds ! Bizarre pricing!

Brains - Honest Ale | 4.50
Greene King - Suffolk Springer | 5.50
Caledonian - Old Seadog IPA | 5.20 | | But charged £2-10 upstairs ! |
Lincolnshire Craft (formerly Tom Wood's) - Harvest Bitter | 4.30 | | Also not in festival guide |
Herold - Black Chalice | 4.80

Heaving again at 2210, but managed to find one new fest ale, the Brains Honest Ale 4.5 on to fill the gap..
Brains - Honest Ale | 4.50 | | New to me. OK. Nothing special. |
Herold - Black Chalice | 4.80 | Not Tried | New on and had before. |
06 Apr 2010 (Alenomore)
Nothing (festwise) new to tick, so, an old one, Mauldons Silver Adder sampled, and in good condition. This place was "heaving" at 2215 due to student holidays ect?
Mauldons - Silver Adder | 4.20 | | It filled the gap... |
05 Apr 2010 (Alenomore)
An early evening Bank holiday Monday visit, and, pleasantly surprised to see the beer festival has already started here! 5 new festival ales on, plus 2 others and one already gone. Apparently, it started here on Good Friday! Very impressed, as this place normally gets negative reviews. £2.10 per pint until the fest officially starts on Wednesday, when it will be £1.89. I'm going to be very busy hunting down these festival ales for the next few weeks for sure?
Titanic - Tomahawk | 5.00 | | Another for the festival. A superb ale. |
Greene King - Suffolk Springer | 5.50 | | Another festival ale. Top class taste, which is very surprising coming from GK? |
Wadworth - Farmers Glory | 4.70 | | For the festival, good taste and in good conditon. |
Highgate - Davenport's Beer Hunter | 4.50 | | Another new ale for the festival. Very good. |
Greene King - Abbot | 5.00 | Not Tried
Cotleigh - Osprey | 5.00 | Not Tried
Mauldons - Silver Adder | 4.20 | Not Tried
Marston's - Zululand Zulu Blonde | 4.50 | Not Tried | Damn. Gone already! Another for the festival. A guest brewer from South Africa brewing at Marstons. One to hunt down for sure. |
