05 Apr 2010 (Alenomore)
An early evening Bank holiday Monday visit, and, pleasantly surprised to see the beer festival has already started here! 5 new festival ales on, plus 2 others and one already gone. Apparently, it started here on Good Friday! Very impressed, as this place normally gets negative reviews. £2.10 per pint until the fest officially starts on Wednesday, when it will be £1.89. I'm going to be very busy hunting down these festival ales for the next few weeks for sure?
| Titanic - Tomahawk | 5.00 | | Another for the festival. A superb ale. |
| Greene King - Suffolk Springer | 5.50 | | Another festival ale. Top class taste, which is very surprising coming from GK? |
| Wadworth - Farmers Glory | 4.70 | | For the festival, good taste and in good conditon. |
| Highgate - Davenport's Beer Hunter | 4.50 | | Another new ale for the festival. Very good. |

| Cotleigh - Osprey | 5.00 | Not Tried | |
| Mauldons - Silver Adder | 4.20 | Not Tried | |
| Marston's - Zululand Zulu Blonde | 4.50 | Not Tried | Damn. Gone already! Another for the festival. A guest brewer from South Africa brewing at Marstons. One to hunt down for sure. |
14 Mar 2010 (Alenomore)
Quiet, as usual, for an early Sunday evening visit.
| Hilden - Gael Rua | 4.30 | | Incredibly smoky Irish ale. Think of some German types and you'll love this ale! |

Nice enough upstairs, but unless they improve how they look after their beers, it will take me a lot to be tempted back into here.
| Batemans - Dragon's Den | 4.10 | | Slightly yeasty bitter. It's a bitter. OK. Fine. |
17 Apr 2009 (Andrew)
Walking in we noticed all the chairs had gone. The lady behind the bar said it was because that part of the pub was now a dance floor. We initially sat a the rear of the pub but after some loud tracksuit clad fellows sat at the table next to us we went upstairs where it was quiet.
| Barons - Bush Berry Porter | 4.50 | | This is a mild surely? Anyway, mild or porter it wasn't very good. Tart, low hoping, black, milky sick and smells bad. |
14 Feb 2009 (Ian)
The barmaids were dressed up in tacky cupid costumes. The beer here can be good, but I wasn't keen on the atmosphere or beer today.
| Robinsons - Trouble & Strife | 4.10 | | Chestnut colour, some diacetyl on aroma. Not as yeasty as some Robinson beers, nutty fruity malt, poor condition. Some tingle on tongue |
| Spinning Dog - Border Bitter | 4.50 | | Copper colour, again poor condition. Bit of everything, some hop, some sweetness from malt, a little hop sting on finish. Poor condition. |
