Visits Details

10 Dec 2009 (McGargle)
Busy, chatty. Pleasantly surprised to see a group of students playing typical pub games.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Deeside - Macbeth4.10GoodDark golden ale served perfectly clear. Less hoppy than I recall but pleasant enough and well balanced.
Strathaven - Claverhouse Red Ale4.50Not TriedPlus another Strathaven offering.
03 Dec 2009 (McGargle)
Bob Dylan on the jukebox. Dylan in a metal bar!
BeerABVScoreNotes
BrewDog - 5AM Saint5.00PoorWell brewed and well served demonstration of what's possible rather than necessarily desirable. Clear mahogany with booming resinous hops, incredibly bitter with long, long dry finish. Not to my taste but others may love it.
13 Nov 2009 (Ray)
Busy. Plenty of chat; welcoming.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Deeside - Nechtan4.10ExcellentAbsolutely clear with tight long lasting white head. Brewed with Amarillo hops this time and bursting with sharp citrus flavours with long satisfying finish. 4.1/2*
Deeside - Broichan5.20Not TriedA dark, malty, 5.2% strong ale, with flavours of dark chocolate and coffee.
19 Oct 2009 (McGargle)
Felt like the students' union.
BeerABVScoreNotes
BrewDog - Trashy Blonde4.10ExcellentClear golden orange with thin white head served at perfect temperature. Initial hop hit well balanced by malty body. Exceptional at first, the taste became over-rich (not over-hopped) and slightly cloying by the end of a pint.
08 Oct 2009 (McGargle)
Tried both the Deeside beers but get the impression that, on top form, Deeside are hard to beat quality control needs to be addressed.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Deeside - Brude3.50ExcellentFull of fruity flavours.
Deeside - Macbeth4.10AcceptableMore opaque than hazy. Plenty of hops but not much else.

Busyish. Happy Hour, which never caused any trouble, has had to be withdrawn because of the absolute failure of the Scottish Executive to tackle the root causes of excess drinking rather than minor symptoms. Sorry, rant over.
BeerABVScoreNotes
BrewDog - The Physics5.00ExcellentPoured a dark amber with an enticing and long lasting head even though pulled without sparkler. Rich mouth feel with excellent balance.
Deeside - Lulach4.00AcceptablePoured a hazy pale gold. Slight citrussy hop aromas. Unremittingly dry in the mouth.
Inveralmond - Thrappledouser4.30Not Tried

Been coming here for many years and the beer now is as good as, if not better than, it's ever been. Busy tonight.
BeerABVScoreNotes
BrewDog - Edge3.20GoodSlightly lacking in body and depth but that's only relative. Perhaps, getting tired.
Valhalla - Sjolmet Stout5.00AcceptablePours a very deep red with light, short lasting head. Vague hints of fruit and smoke but not really much of interest. Light bodied for it's strength.
28 Aug 2009 (McGargle)
Busy.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Deeside - Nechtan4.10ExcellentTop form. Floral, hoppy with dry bitter finish. So tasty that I didn't get round to trying the Valhalla beers.

The pub is found in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, AB11 5AA.

Rock and metal music bar on Trinity Quay, with friendly staff and customers. Unstinting commitment to real ale - usually five from mostly Scottish micros (often BrewDog) on. Lined glasses used. Excellent selection of keg beers on font and plenty of interesting bottles - think Rodenbach, Cantillon and the like. Real Cider too. One of the best bars in Scotland and probably Britain, The Moorings Bar is an Aberdeen 'must visit'. Renamed in 2015. In March 2020 decided to closed for the duration of the Coronavirus alerts.

We have visited this pub 141 times, seen 157 different beers and tried 91 of them.
