10 Dec 2009 (McGargle)
Busy, chatty. Pleasantly surprised to see a group of students playing typical pub games.
Deeside - Macbeth | 4.10 | | Dark golden ale served perfectly clear. Less hoppy than I recall but pleasant enough and well balanced. |
Strathaven - Claverhouse Red Ale | 4.50 | Not Tried | Plus another Strathaven offering. |
03 Dec 2009 (McGargle)
Bob Dylan on the jukebox. Dylan in a metal bar!
BrewDog - 5AM Saint | 5.00 | | Well brewed and well served demonstration of what's possible rather than necessarily desirable. Clear mahogany with booming resinous hops, incredibly bitter with long, long dry finish. Not to my taste but others may love it. |
13 Nov 2009 (Ray)
Busy. Plenty of chat; welcoming.
Deeside - Nechtan | 4.10 | | Absolutely clear with tight long lasting white head. Brewed with Amarillo hops this time and bursting with sharp citrus flavours with long satisfying finish. 4.1/2* |
Deeside - Broichan | 5.20 | Not Tried | A dark, malty, 5.2% strong ale, with flavours of dark chocolate and coffee. |
19 Oct 2009 (McGargle)
Felt like the students' union.
BrewDog - Trashy Blonde | 4.10 | | Clear golden orange with thin white head served at perfect temperature. Initial hop hit well balanced by malty body. Exceptional at first, the taste became over-rich (not over-hopped) and slightly cloying by the end of a pint. |
08 Oct 2009 (McGargle)
Tried both the Deeside beers but get the impression that, on top form, Deeside are hard to beat quality control needs to be addressed.
Deeside - Brude | 3.50 | | Full of fruity flavours. |
Deeside - Macbeth | 4.10 | | More opaque than hazy. Plenty of hops but not much else. |
Houston - Peter's Well | 4.20 | Not Tried
Swannay (formerly Highland) - Scapa Special | 4.20 | Not Tried
25 Sep 2009 (Ray)
Busyish. Happy Hour, which never caused any trouble, has had to be withdrawn because of the absolute failure of the Scottish Executive to tackle the root causes of excess drinking rather than minor symptoms. Sorry, rant over.
BrewDog - The Physics | 5.00 | | Poured a dark amber with an enticing and long lasting head even though pulled without sparkler. Rich mouth feel with excellent balance. |
Deeside - Lulach | 4.00 | | Poured a hazy pale gold. Slight citrussy hop aromas. Unremittingly dry in the mouth. |
Inveralmond - Thrappledouser | 4.30 | Not Tried
Inveralmond - Ossian's Ale | 4.10 | Not Tried
04 Sep 2009 (Ray)
Been coming here for many years and the beer now is as good as, if not better than, it's ever been. Busy tonight.
BrewDog - Edge | 3.20 | | Slightly lacking in body and depth but that's only relative. Perhaps, getting tired. |
Valhalla - Sjolmet Stout | 5.00 | | Pours a very deep red with light, short lasting head. Vague hints of fruit and smoke but not really much of interest. Light bodied for it's strength. |
28 Aug 2009 (McGargle)
Busy.
Deeside - Nechtan | 4.10 | | Top form. Floral, hoppy with dry bitter finish. So tasty that I didn't get round to trying the Valhalla beers. |
Inveralmond - Independence | 3.80 | Not Tried
Inveralmond - Ossian's Ale | 4.10 | Not Tried
Valhalla - Sjolmet Stout | 5.00 | Not Tried
Valhalla - Old Scatness | 4.00 | Not Tried
10 Aug 2009 (McGargle)
Busy.
BrewDog - Trashy Blonde | 4.10 | | Different from last tasting. Hops slightly less evident but bigger mouth feel. Hard to believe it's only 4.1%. |
Inveralmond - Thrappledouser | 4.30 | Not Tried
Deeside - Macbeth | 4.10 | Not Tried
Deeside - Lulach | 4.00 | Not Tried
Houston - Black & Tan | 4.30 | Not Tried
03 Aug 2009 (McGargle)
Busy with mixed crowd. Suitably loud music on the jukebox which I've just figured out how to work.
Deeside - Nechtan | 4.10 | | Slighty hazy but bursting with citrus flavours. |
Inveralmond - Inkie Pinkie | 3.70 | Not Tried
Inveralmond - Homecoming Scotland | 4.20 | Not Tried
