Quietest time to visit here: Sunday afternoon, you can get a table, relax and enjoy the beers on offer.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Spire - Dark Side of the Moon4.30ExcellentRuby red mild with excellent malt flavour and a smooth well rounded character. Just a hint of hop in the finish. My score 16/20.
Mallinsons - Bells & Whistles4.30GoodGolden bitter with good hop character. Citrus flavours present through to the finish. My score 15/20.
George Wright - Mocne Piwo5.10GoodStrong golden bitter, well balanced with good citrus hop flavour. My score 15/20.
Wentworth - Chilli Stout4.50AcceptableAny stout flavour at the start is rather overwhelmed by quite a hot chilli flavour. Ruins a good stout, not really my thing. Score 13/20.
Irwell Works - Snow Scuttle4.60AcceptableFairly unremarkable best bitter, little hop character, some maltiness, but lacking in body - tastes weaker than its strength. My score 13/20.
Boggart - New Year New Beer3.80AcceptableGolden with a sweetish toffee malt flavour that intensifies to verging on a diacetyl flavour by the finish. Not much in the way of hop. My score 13/20.
Dunham Massey - Ruby Sunset4.10AcceptableDark reddish bitter with a bitter flavour from a mix of amber/crystal malt and a bitter hop. Dry, bitter finish. My score 14/20.
Nook - Winter Spice4.50AcceptableDark red/brown spicy bitter. Some citrus hop in there amongst the spices. My score 14/20.

Famous pub opposite Borough Market in Stoney Street. Central bar has many beers which change on a regular basis and are mostly from UK micros. Can be extremely busy. Refurbishment some time ago and now there is one main room with a side area with seating as well. Many customers use the pavement outside to stand and enjoy their drinks. Really a must for anyone taking in London pubs. Sports 12 handpumps with 6 in each of the 2 distinct bar serving areas plus a further 4 for cider dispense at the far rear. Upstairs restaurant bar area too, mainly for lunchtime use. In 2019 the real ale choice was drastically reduced to 4 and the cider was withdrawn. Downstairs toilets.
