Busy - mostly drinkers.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Brother Rabbit4.00ExcellentPleasantly surprised with this new world hopped light IPA. Well balanced and good body for a low strength beer.
Harviestoun - Number of the Beast3.60AcceptableNot much beastly about this well-balanced but essentially nondescript pale golden ale.
Greene King - Abbot5.00Not Tried
Batemans - XB3.70Not Tried
Tring - Pudding Porter4.50Not Tried
Wychwood (now brewed at Banks's) - Ginger Beard4.50Not Tried
25 Oct 2011 (McGargle)
Busy - good atmosphere.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wadworth - Stone Brewing San Diego Session IPA4.50ExcellentExquisite session ale. Unremittingly bitter golden ale offset by good juicy malts. Drying fruity finish.
Maxim - Andersons Best Scotch4.20Not Tried
Wychwood (now brewed at Banks's) - Ginger Beard4.50Not Tried
Woodforde's - Kett's Rebellion4.30Not Tried

18 Oct 2011 (McGargle)
Festival still in full swing.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Mordue - Red Rye Riwaka4.50ExcellentBurnished copper full bodied ale. Rye gave some depth to the malt and let the citrussy character of the hops shine.
Brewster's - American Chopper4.80AcceptableUndistinguished golden ale. Malts seemed thin and unusually for Brewsters, the hops were tired and lacking.
Everards (see entries against Joule's & Robinsons whilst its new brewery was being built) - Whakatu3.70PoorMight well be made with NZ hops but not many of them. Pale, thin and lacking (in taste).
St Peter's - Golden Ale4.70Not Tried

08 Oct 2011 (McGargle)
Very busy. High turnover of ales was good to see.
BeerABVScoreNotes
St Austell - Proper Black5.00ExcellentBlack premium bitter with excellent smooth mouthfeel. Solid but restrained malts allowed the hops to shine. Long dry finish. Black IPA? No. Great black bitter? Yes.
Shepherd Neame - Fat Head's Yakima Sun5.00UndrinkableAlthough it had only been on for 24hrs I found this undrinkable. Strong golden ale which an unpleasant aroma which I couldn't recognise. Flavour initially a good burst of hops but quickly became dry and assertive mid-mouth. I did wonder about taint from the recent cider festival??
05 Oct 2011 (McGargle)
Quite busy. Lots of people in for the start of the Beer Festival.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Adnams - American Style IPA4.80GoodInitial hoppy bite let down by thin body and short finish.
Titanic - Fit-Out4.50AcceptableBitter but not a lot else.
Brakspear (at Marston's Wychwood) - Triple5.70AcceptableDidn't get this. Almost a blank canvas with little from either hops or malt.
Caledonian - Odell 90/-5.30AcceptableMore Caledonian, with that metallic almost cough medicine underlay, then Odell's. But some solid body and drying finish.
Greene King - Abbot5.00Not Tried

Quick, pleasant service.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Lancaster - Kingmaker5.00ExcellentDeceptively easy drinking golden premium bitter. Full bodied, some sweetness and fruit. Drying finish
Rooster's - Cheers4.70AcceptableThin rather anonymous light golden ale. Unusual sweetish finish.

31 Aug 2011 (McGargle)
Swamped by two large groups of office workers. Staff worked very hard to cope. Well done.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Holden's - Golden Glow4.40GoodInviting deep gold. Typical Holden's yeast flavour, some toffee and good bitter finish, solid malts.
Phoenix - Arizona4.10AcceptableLight golden ale. Disappointingly one dimensional, no real hop presence, grainy malt.

Surprisingly busy for a wet evening.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Grainstore - Gold4.50AcceptableGold with white head. Grainy light beer. Some floral hints but also on the tartish side. Would need more from the malts to combat this. OK but not moreish.
Hook Norton - Haymaker5.00Not TriedWent off.
