Tasting Summary

These comments are the opinion of the individual reviewer and represent what they thought of the beer on a particular day in a particular pub. If a review is less favourable, it may be because the beer suffered somewhere in the supply chain between them and the brewery.

McGarglePoor22 Apr 2011 First impressions on the nose and mouth were of unreconstructed chocolate but these soon subsided to reveal the sourness of a beer on the turn.

RayAcceptable01 Jun 2010 Jet black. Initially promising with roast coffee aromas. Tastes of chocolate and coffee quickly subsided to leave a slightly thin ale.
McGargleAcceptable10 Jan 2010 Thin in body and flavour probably caused by pump syphoning back. Needed, perhaps, 40 pulls to fill the glass.

IanExcellent11 Nov 2010 Lovely roast aroma then good fullness in mouth then good dark fruit on finish. Touch of smokey ashtray. Great though.
ChrisEGood21 Oct 2010 A very enjoyable dark beer. Ian commented that this was better than he had drunk elsewhere.
IanExcellent21 Oct 2010 I've had poor experiences with this beer, especially in terms of diacetyl, but this was very good indeed. Very drinkable, good dark roasted malts. Each pint disappeared without much difficulty.
IanAcceptable24 Oct 2009 Everything else good, good malts, good condition, but diacetyl.

IanAcceptable02 Jul 2008 Black with thin tan head. Bit of liquorice on aroma. Thick and syrupy in mouth, some coffee and choc, but this dry liquorice comes through. Not great for me.
