14 Jan 2011 (McGargle)
Busy but plenty of staff.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Burton Bridge - Golden Delicious3.80PoorSomething of a misnomer this was thin in the mouth with strong green apple flavours. Unpleasant dry finish.
Isle of Skye - Red Cuillin4.20Not Tried
Conwy (Bragdy Conwy) - Welsh Pride4.00Not Tried
Isle of Skye - Old Pretender4.70Not TriedFrom a generous taster the overwhelming impression was of cough medicine. On another day I'll give it a proper tasting.
09 Dec 2010 (McGargle)
Busy but quick service.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Cairngorm - Winter Flurry3.80GoodWell crafted light copper session ale. Hints of caramel with a dry, spicy finish. These notes from Dec. 2009 still apply to this sample. Good, consistent quality from Cairngorm.
Lymestone - Stone Cold4.70AcceptableNondescript best bitter - some unusual (unidentified) mid-mouth flavour.

With no interests in drinking national blands or (too) early Xmas seasonals we moved on.

18 Nov 2010 (McGargle)
Filled up during the evening.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Maxim - Phoenix Rising4.50GoodEasy drinking well balanced North Eastern bitter.
Palm - Steenhuffel Blond4.60PoorFriends had tried this yesterday and thought it lacked condition. It did and died in the glass - shame because the taste and aroma was interesting.
Bath Ales - Ginger Hare3.90Not Tried
Everards (see entries against Joule's & Robinsons whilst its new brewery was being built) - Birra del Borgo Castagnale4.40Not Tried
11 Nov 2010 (McGargle)
Busy for curry night. Good range of beers.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Lumford3.90Excellent48 hours more in the cellar has improved balance. Very solid body. No buttery hints but new world fruits.

Busy with pre-football crowd.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Lumford3.90GoodGolden ale. Unintegrated new world hops overlay a slightly buttery malt. Needs more balance.

22 Oct 2010 (Ray)
Very busy but plenty of staff. Difficult to find seats.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Greene King - Abbot5.00GoodSurprised myself with this. Not quite to my taste but biased towards a smooth malt. Smooth and spicy with hints of hops I can see why people like this beer.
Hook Norton - Hooky Gold4.10PoorHazy and a little cold there were some citrus notes which didn't match well with the thin malt.
Strathaven - Claverhouse Red Ale4.50Not Tried
Strathaven - Old Mortality4.20Not Tried
07 Oct 2010 (McGargle)
Busy but plenty of staff. Friendly atmosphere.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Loddon - Bamboozle Pale Ale4.80GoodPlenty of soft fruits (lychees and mangoes), firm malt and slightly too sweet.
Phoenix - Navvy3.80AcceptableProbably an unfair rating as 5am Saint from The Moorings was still with me. Lot's of different hops used but couldn't taste them

Busy but plenty of staff.
BeerABVScoreNotes
St Austell - Proper Job4.50ExcellentLight golden, well balanced ale. Grapefruit on the nose and light citrus and grassy flavours with lightly kilned barley. Careful use of American hops lead to a smooth moreish finish. If St. Austell can brew a beer this good there's no reason (except ambition0 why the other regionals can't.
