Evening. Read through the bottled beer list - some amazing choices and several bottles over £100 albeit for 3 litres of over 10% ABV Wow.

Evening visit. Numbers probably boosted by Christmas market stalls in New Street nearby and some heavy showers.

Eureka! Mid evening visit and I have found it this time. May have been made easier by the fact that the Greggs next door neighbour geographical marker will no longer have to charge 20% VAT on its hot, but cooling, pasties and pies. Although in co-ownership with The Wellington this pub plays a quite different chord - although smaller in size and handpump beer range I thought its range of real ales was more adventurous.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hobsons - Mild3.20ExcellentServed in a heavy pint Hobsons branded handled jug which I was only just able to hold aloft
Byatt's - Urban Red4.50ExcellentAsked for a taster just to ensure it was not an Irish Red Ale style - it was a good hoppy bitter

Not armed with a map I asked local after local but no one could direct me perhaps as it is such a new venue. By the time staff in The Wellington gave me directions it was too late to visit. Next time lucky!

Fairly quiet early lunchtime. A slightly bleak cellar bar (but the attraction is in the beer), most easily found via its main entrance in Pinfold Street.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Byatt's - Urban Red4.50ExcellentDeep red in colour, rich and malty but not too sweet.
Bartrams - Pierrot4.00GoodGolden ale with thick malty mouthfeel and some nice crisp, citrusy hops. Very bitter aftertaste.
Milestone - Dark Galleon5.40GoodA smooth and malty, porter-style beer. Deep red and not troubled by hops.

None of our group had ever been here before, and we nearly walked past it, as there is just a doorway sandwiched between two shops. We walked down the stairs and found a delightful pub with knowledgeable bar staff.
