09 Jan 2018 (Stephen Harris)
It is unusually quiet in here and we even toy with the idea of ordering a pizza as the waiting time is advertised as just 20 minutes.
Crate - Session IPA | 3.60 | | Lightweight and hoppy. |
Siren Craft - Liquid Mistress Red IPA | 5.80 | Not Tried
Siren Craft - Under Current | 4.50 | Not Tried
Crate - Golden | 4.00 | Not Tried
Crate - Red Ale | 4.10 | Not Tried
08 Dec 2017 (Stephen Harris)
This pub has expanded into the premises next door since my last visit, more than doubling the inside seating area. This is just as well, as it is a bitterly cold evening and everybody wants to be inside.
Arbor Ales - Boomtown Brown | 5.30 | | Arbor have turned their hand to a Brown Ale with their usual aplomb. Hoppy and spicy. |
Burning Sky - Plateau (was 3.5%) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Crate - Session IPA | 3.60 | Not Tried
Crate - Red Ale | 4.10 | Not Tried
21 Aug 2017 (Magnus Greel)
Just after lunchtime opening, pleasant airy but trendy atmosphere with plenty of bench seating to absorb customers, which consisted mainly of tattooed men with their hair in buns.
Crate - Session IPA | 3.60 | | Fruity hit, mainly peach with an occasional blackcurrant twist. Delicious. |
Oakham - Scarlet Macaw | 4.40 | Not Tried
Rooster's - Wake Up Call | 6.50 | Not Tried
17 May 2017 (Stephen Harris)
Mid-evening on a rainy day. It’s crowded in here, but not with the usual Hipsters and Big-Beards – more of a sporty throng. They’ve been doing something energetic in the Olympic Park and have a huge thirst for beer and hunger for pizza.
Salopian - Bullet Proof | 5.80 | | A strong, golden IPA. |
Crate - American Nut Brown | 5.20 | | From a keg of some sort. Rich and dark and smooth. |
Crate - Session IPA | 3.60 | | The cask was misbehaving in some way and the beer foaming and spluttering. Golden in colour, it felt a bit battered by the time a glassful had been squeezed out. Good hoppy tastes though. |
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - McConnel's | 5.00 | Not Tried
Burning Sky - Plateau (was 3.5%) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Crate - Rye | 5.50 | Not Tried
27 Apr 2017 (Stephen Harris)
Early evening – drizzly and cool. Busy inside, but plenty of space at the outside tables. I note that beer has become rather expensive here.
Crate - Rye | 5.50 | | A nice rye twang, but not as full-bodied as I recall this beer usually to be. |
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Brother Rabbit | 4.00 | Not Tried
Saltaire - Hop #256 | 5.00 | Not Tried
Crate - Golden | 4.00 | Not Tried
05 Mar 2017 (Stephen Harris)
A rainy late afternoon and the Sunday crowds are a bit thinner than usual. I even found a place to sit. My first visit here this year, so this becomes number 21 on my 2017 tour of London breweries and brewery taps.
Crate - Lemon Gose | 4.40 | | On keg dispense. Golden. Sharp, sour, salty and lemony. |
Clouded Minds - Elisir Amber Ale | 5.30 | | Amber/gold and dominated by bitter hops. |
Saltaire - Amarillo (was Amarillo Gold) | 4.50 | Not Tried
Crate - Golden | 4.00 | Not Tried
Crate - Brewers Tap Amber Ale | 4.20 | Not Tried
04 Nov 2016 (Stephen Harris)
Wet weather means most of the Friday night crowds are staying away.
Crate - Double IPA | 9.90 | | On keg dispense – brewed in collaboration with Howling Hops. Very powerful stuff. |
Crate - Rye | 5.50 | | A full-on rye flavour. |
Salopian - Lemon Dream | 4.50 | Not Tried
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Jaipur | 5.90 | Not Tried
16 Sep 2016 (Stephen Harris)
Early evening – just as the crowds were starting to build up. I sat on one of the outside tables in the yard at the rear, for a change.
Wylam - Remain in the Light | 5.00 | | An amber-coloured Pale Ale. Good body and flavour. Bitter. |
Swannay (formerly Highland) - Orkney IPA | 4.80 | Not Tried
Magic Rock - High Wire | 5.50 | Not Tried
Crate - Golden Ale | 3.80 | Not Tried
Crate - Rye | 5.50 | Not Tried
05 Aug 2016 (Stephen Harris)
Early evening after a stroll around the Olympic Park in pleasant weather. Inevitably, it is packed in here.
Crate - German Pale Ale | 3.80 | | Very pale in colour. The presence of (presumably) German hops give this flavoursome beer a Lager-like quality. |
Salopian - Oracle | 4.00 | Not Tried
Salopian - Darwin's Origin | 4.30 | Not Tried
Blackjack - Keyworth Mid | 4.80 | Not Tried
14 Apr 2016 (Stephen Harris)
Fairly quiet in the late afternoon and the weather nice enough to sit outside.
Crate - American Pale Ale | 4.30 | | Amber-coloured and bang on style. |
Crate - Black IPA | 7.20 | | On keg dispense. A fabulous, strong, Black IPA with a big hop hit and a very firm malt base. Probably my favourite beer style and this is amongst the best I have tried. Pushing five stars, but this pint just held back by an unwanted carbonation. |
Saltaire - Hop #256 | 5.00 | | Amber-coloured and hoppy. Very bitter finish. |
Crate - Golden Ale | 3.80 | Not Tried
Crate - Porter | 4.10 | Not Tried
