Pretty busy in the late afternoon. I ran into somebody here who I last enjoyed a beer with at the Bierkamer in Ertvelde, Belgium, more than 18 months ago. Eight keg beers and numerous bottles to choose from today, from the two breweries co-located at this site.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Bullfinch - Citrageddon7.00ExcellentFrom keg. A strong, very well-hopped, Black IPA.
Anspach & Hobday - Rhubarb Sour4.00PoorFrom keg. I didn’t like this. To me it had a ‘cheesy’ smell and taste. I’ve tasted cheese in a fruit beer once before (a strawberry beer that time) and, as before, others seemed to be enjoying this beer. Perhaps it’s just me…

Today has been advertised as the public launch of this brewery and there is already quite a crowd present when I arrive at midday. Lots going on: Five bottled beers available from two breweries, ‘live brewing’ underway, live music too, and some beer and food matching. The event was destined to be drunk dry well before planned closing time.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Anspach & Hobday - The Smoked Brown6.00ExcellentFrom a bottle. Very nice. Good and smoky.
Bullfinch - Dapper6.20ExcellentFrom a bottle. Described as being ‘like an IPA but with all-British ingredients’ – an interesting concept, but showing the extent to which IPA is now thought of primarily as being a US style of beer. Very tasty for a Fuggles-driven beer.

Only the second Saturday of opening here and the bar is busy at lunchtime, including a big group of CAMRA bods. Bottled beer only for the time being.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Anspach & Hobday - The IPA6.00ExcellentGood quality, strongish, bottled IPA.
Bullfinch - USA IPA7.20GoodBottled. A dark amber coloured beer with good hops (Columbus/Citra/Cascade) set against a crystal malt sweetness.

The pub is found in Bermondsey, Central London, SE1 2HH.

One of the line of railway arch brewers in Bermondsey in Druid Street. Anspach & Hobday initially trial-brewed on the nearby Brew Wharf plant, before launching their own brewery here in January 2014. At the beginning, they shared their small premises with Bullfinch Brewery, the latter subsequently setting up on their own at Herne Hill. The brewing kit was to the rear of the arch, with a bar area and beer garden-style trestle tables at the front. Part of a busy Saturday market area based around Druid Street. After relocation of brewing operations elsewhere it is now an enlarged pub space. 2 handpumps and a row of keg wall taps.

We have visited this pub 23 times, seen 38 different beers and tried 37 of them.
