12 Aug 2012 (Alenomore)
15:30 visit. Fairly busy, inside and out, as was most of Herne Bay today. Half decent ale range on too.
Wantsum - Red Raddle | 5.00 | | A new ale for me. Very good taste too at this abv. |
Whitstable - Oyster Stout | 4.50 | Not Tried
Inveralmond - Lia Fail | 4.70 | Not Tried
Hanlons (formerly O'Hanlon's) - Stormstay | 5.00 | Not Tried
31 Jul 2011 (Andrew)
Man Herne Bay was packed. Whilst the family went to the play ground opposite I popped in for a very swift half.
Wantsum - More's Head (previously 3.4% & 3.5%) | 3.70 | | Hint of Wantsum flavour coming though but probably a little tired. |
Oakham - JHB | 3.80 | Not Tried
Greene King - Abbot | 5.00 | Not Tried
Greene King - Ruddles Best (was 3.7%) | 3.40 | Not Tried
25 Jun 2011 (Andrew)
Went to the Harvester for dinner (I know how to live) but it was very busy so we came here instead (see I told you I know how to live). The front of the pub was quite busy as it overlooks the sea but the back was nice and quiet so we sat there. Quick service too.
Wantsum - Hengist | 5.00 | | Pale gold. A bit hazy. Smoky, bit of perspex, strong grassy hop finish |
Lymestone - Stone the Crows | 5.40 | | Black. Roasted caramel, hint of tar. No real condition. |
Greene King - Ruddles County | 4.30 | Not Tried
Greene King - Abbot | 5.00 | Not Tried

I originally went into the Prince of Wales but it was packed with Man U and Liverpool fans plus it still hasn't got the Early Bird on. So I decided to go to the Saxon Shore which meant I had to walk through town and along the sea front. I past the usual crowd of bikers, blokes eating pies, kid's larking about and dazed looking tourists wondering how the hell they ended up here. The Saxon Shore wasn't too busy, perhaps because they weren't showing the football. I stood at the bar and ordered Saltaire's Titus Black. Of course it wasn't on was it? Nope, it had an annoying "coming soon" label that I hadn't spotted. So I had the JHB. I only had 10 minutes so 10 minutes after walking in I swilled down the last 2 inchs and left.
Oakham - JHB | 3.80 | | When she poured it the colour amazed me. Looked like a vampire had got there first; a paler beer I've not seen since Ventor's White Spirt. Anyway it tasted good; very quaffable. Quite citrus-hoppy but in the pantheon of citrus hoppy beers it's at the bottom of the mountain staring up longingly at Dark Star's Hophead. |
Greene King - Ruddles County | 4.30 | Not Tried
Greene King - Abbot | 5.00 | Not Tried
Marston's - Pedigree | 4.50 | Not Tried
18 Apr 2008 (Blair)
Needed a quick pint while waiting for my friends to arrive on the train. This is the only place in Herne Bay I could think of to get a pint of ale. Usual spoons clientele, friendly staff. No problems.
Sharp's - Eden Ale | 4.40 | | Very cold but nice hoppy aroma and biscuity malt flavours. Pretty good actually. |
Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Greene King - Abbot | 5.00 | Not Tried
Marston's - Burton Bitter | 3.80 | Not Tried
Marston's - Pedigree | 4.50 | Not Tried

Set right on the seafront in Herne Bay, it's a relatively small Spoons with different seating areas. Fine. Here with Martin, Andrew and Charlie for their birthdays.
Shepherd Neame - Stone Brewing California Double IPA | 7.00 | | Not quite got the aroma, but just so drinkable. I love it. |

Here with Ian, Martin and Charlie. Not overly busy for a late Saturday afternoon. Got some food and had a beer festival beer.
Yo-Ho Brewing Company - Tokyo Black Ale | 5.00 | | Black beer with a thin head. Burnt malt with a hint of whiskey. Bit of bitter chocolate there too. |
Shepherd Neame - Early Bird | 4.30 | Not Tried
Elgood's - Old Wagg | 4.00 | Not Tried
Everards (see entries against Joule's & Robinsons whilst its new brewery was being built) - Sunchaser | 4.00 | Not Tried
Brains - The Rev James Original | 4.50 | Not Tried
Greene King - Abbot Reserve | 6.50 | Not Tried
Shepherd Neame - Stone Brewing California Double IPA | 7.00 | Not Tried | Had a sip of Ian's. Drinkable ...just about. |
Cains - Bock | 4.50 | Not Tried
06 Apr 2008 (Andrew)
Jane's obsession with Wether-burgers continued. Not very busy which is a crime given how good their beer festival is.
Harviestoun - Old Engine Oil | 6.00 | | Black beer. Roasted malt and mildly acrid burnt finish with some milky undertones. |
Caledonian - Chocolate Drop | 3.80 | | Black beer with soft mouth feel. Sweet coco-powder flavours with very low hop-rate. |
Shepherd Neame - Stone Brewing California Double IPA | 7.00 | | Cointreau and BOLS Parfait Amour flavours domintated. Drinking this reminded me of the last time I hit the cocktail cabinet. Eventually I got used to the taste but as a beer it's madness in a glass.

Jane fancied a burger so he we are. Quite busy but then I don't tend to go out on Saturdays in Herne Bay so I don't know what it's usually like.
Greene King - Original Wexford (St. Patrick's) | 4.90 | | I didn't like this. Brown bitter with a taste of hoegaarden. Malty with herbyheathery hops. Served fine but not a nice beer in my opinion. |
Greene King - Abbot | 5.00 | Not Tried
Marston's - Pedigree | 4.50 | Not Tried

Came for food really as neither Jane or I could be bothered to cook. Seemed a lot of people in Herne Bay couldn't be bothered to cook either as it was busy with people eating.
Marston's - Pedigree | 4.50 | | Soft mouth feel with an initial, pleasant, sulphorous taste. Middle of the mouth was left alone but the finish was of a harsh marzipan hop bite. |
Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Greene King - Abbot | 5.00 | Not Tried
Marston's - Burton Bitter | 3.80 | Not Tried
Caledonian - 80/- | 4.10 | Not Tried
