Jane's obsession with Wether-burgers continued. Not very busy which is a crime given how good their beer festival is.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Harviestoun - Old Engine Oil6.00ExcellentBlack beer. Roasted malt and mildly acrid burnt finish with some milky undertones.
Caledonian - Chocolate Drop3.80ExcellentBlack beer with soft mouth feel. Sweet coco-powder flavours with very low hop-rate.
Shepherd Neame - Stone Brewing California Double IPA7.00AcceptableCointreau and BOLS Parfait Amour flavours domintated. Drinking this reminded me of the last time I hit the cocktail cabinet. Eventually I got used to the taste but as a beer it's madness in a glass.

Jane fancied a burger so he we are. Quite busy but then I don't tend to go out on Saturdays in Herne Bay so I don't know what it's usually like.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Greene King - Original Wexford (St. Patrick's)4.90AcceptableI didn't like this. Brown bitter with a taste of hoegaarden. Malty with herbyheathery hops. Served fine but not a nice beer in my opinion.

Came for food really as neither Jane or I could be bothered to cook. Seemed a lot of people in Herne Bay couldn't be bothered to cook either as it was busy with people eating.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Marston's - Pedigree4.50GoodSoft mouth feel with an initial, pleasant, sulphorous taste. Middle of the mouth was left alone but the finish was of a harsh marzipan hop bite.

Came for lunch. Lunch area was busy. I was going to have the Old Hooky but then noticed that it had that 'coming soon' sign on it. Not soon enough.
BeerABVScoreNotes

Give Tim Martin his credit. He make's less than 15% of his money from Real Ale yet it's the best publicised thing in his pubs. No one else much in. Seemed to be more off duty staff than customers which is a shame as it was a great beer festival. They did special third pint glasses on a labeled tray, 3 for £1.89!
BeerABVScoreNotes
Jennings (since closure now brewed at Marston's) - Sneck Lifter5.10ExcellentHad a pint of this as Ian's always saying how good it is and I've never tried it. He's right, it's great. Dark brown beer with mellow roasted coffee and a hint of toffee.
Arran (formerly Isle of Arran) - Dark4.30Good1/3 pint tasting. Light brown in colour. Peaty with rose petal and a short lived richness. A heathery hop finish
Cains - Fine Raisin Beer5.00Good1/3 pint tasting. Smells of sweet raisins. Light brown colour. Candy raisin flavour with a smooth mellow hop finish
Hydes - Atomic4.90Good1/3 pint tasting. Ruby black brown colour. Smooth plum and prune flavours. Powdery.

Busy on a Friday night but not so much so that we couldn't get a seat. The beer was served in plastic glasses.

The pub is found in Herne Bay, Kent, CT6 5JQ.

By Wetherspoon standards this is quite a small pub with a meandering layout. Situated on the sea front it has good views out to sea. The southeast coastline of England was once known as the Saxon Shore, from the military forts built along it during the late Roman occupation. Today, the Saxon Shore footpath passes along Central Parade and has given its name to this Wetherspoon pub.

We have visited this pub 28 times, seen 71 different beers and tried 29 of them.
