Freeminer - Deep Shaft Stout | 6.20 | | Black stout with dark brown creamy head and excellent flavours of dark roast malts. Good hoppiness for balance. My score 16/20. |
Mauldons - Blackberry Porter | 4.80 | | Superb aroma of blackberries gives the hint of what's to come. Huge blackberry fruit flavour backed up with the dark malt flavours of the porter base. Very drinkable. My score 17/20. |
01 Apr 2011 (Ian)
First stop on my cycle ride round London Spoons. Lots of people seemed to be meeting up for various stag/hen weekends.
Freeminer - Deep Shaft Stout | 6.20 | | Really big full stout with lots of burnt dark fruit. |
Saltaire - Liquorice Stout | 5.00 | | Full in mouth and not as much liquorice as I feared. |
Springhead - The Bees Knees (superseded by 3.9% version) | 4.20 | | Some honey. Some fullness in the mouth. Some sweetness. Fine. |
Mauldons - Blackberry Porter | 4.80 | | Tasted of Ribena to me and very thin in the mouth. |
18 Sep 2010 (Alenomore)
Straight from Brum, and just after 2200, nearly 60 minutes to wait for the train home, this place had ales of interest on for a change.
Itchen Valley - One Hop Cascade | 4.20 | | Very good too. |
Marston's - Wychwood Hobgoblin IPA (was Ruby Beer, was Hobgoblin) | 4.50 | Not Tried
31 Dec 2009 (Martin the Mildman)
Weltons - Snowdrift | 3.70 | | Quite a dry and bitter tasting amber beer with a dyrish finish. My score 13/20. |
20 Dec 2009 (Blair)
Had an hour to kill before my train so sat at a table in here like a loner. this does well at feeling like a real pub despite being situated in a railway station. I actually quite like the place.
Weltons - Headless Horseman | 6.00 | | Dark beer with a bready, chocolate flavour to it. Quie good. |
Smiles - Maiden Legover | 3.50 | Not Tried
Greene King - Ruddles Best (was 3.7%) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Moorhouse's - Mistletoe Madness | 4.00 | Not Tried
19 Apr 2009 (Ian)
Earlyish on a Sunday morning and there were a group of Everton fans in for the FA Cup semi final at Wembley. I sat by the window with my 3 thirds.
Elgood's - CXXX | 4.20 | | Copper colour with a pale thin lasting beige head. It is an ok, slightly biscuit bitter, ok bitterness on end. Very drinkable bitter with good biscuit malts. Definitely grew on me. |
Everards (see entries against Joule's & Robinsons whilst its new brewery was being built) - Tiger Triple Gold | 5.00 | | Copper colour with lasting beige head. It’a a strongish bitter with a bit of orangey fruit, some good drying hop on finish, bit of bite and some house yeast character. Fine. |
Caledonian - Raspberry Fool | 4.00 | | Old gold colour. The raspberry hits you before you get it to your mouth. No diacetyl for a Caley beer which was a change. It is a rapberry flavoured bitter. Not really my thing |
14 Mar 2009 (Blair)
Had completely forgotten I came here, then today more than a month later it's come back to me clearly. Had 25 minutes to wait for the train to Rochester so grabbed a pint and sat up top. It's actually quite pleasant sat up top people watching.
Spinning Dog - Border Bitter | 4.50 | | Relatively sweet and quite malty. A good solid bitter. |
05 Dec 2008 (Blair)
Had 25 minutes to wait for the train, and it was cold so I waited in here. Actually this place is pretty good for a pub in a train station. Good atmosphere and good beer.
Springhead - St Nicks Porter | 4.00 | | Black beer with a thick white head. This is completely dominated by liquorice, it actually kind've works. Little bit odd, but certainly interesting. |
29 Mar 2008 (Ian)
Not a bad bar for a railway station, the woman behind the bar was pleasant and helpful and the view over the bustle of the station makes you feel peaceful as you sit supping your beer.
Caledonian - Chocolate Drop | 3.80 | | Dark brown colour with lasting creamy beige head. Milky choccy coffee flavour. Some dark cherry/plum fruit too. Bit grainy in the mouth. Pretty decent balance, touch of hop sting on finish. Choccy aroma. Fine. I always find myself sat outside the ladies loo in this pub and I have no idea why. |
Ecaussinnes - Cookie Beer | 5.00 | | Not sure what to expect. Gold colour, slight haze, thin beige head. It’s a doughy Belgian blond, with Belgian yeast and rose petal fruit on aroma with this dough/biscuit edge. Better than I expected given the only other Ultra been I’ve had is the vimto fruit beer. Slightly sweet standard Belgain blond. |
