Visits Details
18 Sep 2018 (Stephen Harris)
A flying visit, just to catch the last ten minutes of the Liverpool v PSG match here on TV. A good crowd in to watch it.
Three Sods - SeSsiON IPA | 4.40 | | Golden and more malty than I had remembered it. |
Sharp's - Doom Bar | 4.00 | Not Tried
Signature Brew - Backstage IPA | 5.60 | Not Tried
05 Sep 2018 (Stephen Harris)
A comfort break stop on the way home that developed into a couple of pints. Pub surprisingly busy at 10:30pm. No escaping the conclusion that there was a much better atmosphere and tastier beer here than at two City pubs visited earlier.
Signature Brew - Solo: Hallertau Blanc | 5.00 | | - A really good showcase for this relatively subtle and unchallenging hop variety. |
Purity - Pure Gold | 3.80 | Not Tried
Purity - Pure UBU | 4.50 | Not Tried
12 Aug 2018 (Stephen Harris)
Fairly late in the evening for a quick one.
Signature Brew - Solo: Azacca | 5.00 | | A golden, single hop beer. Perfect condition really emphasises the hop character. |
Titanic - Plum Porter | 4.90 | Not Tried
Big Penny (formerly Truman's) as of late 2022 contract brewed - Scorcher | 4.20 | Not Tried
29 Jul 2018 (Stephen Harris)
I had decided to eat here and discovered that Sunday evening is the one session of the week when the kitchen is closed. Probably explains why it is my favourite time to come here – quiet and peaceful.
Signature Brew - Solo: Azacca | 5.00 | | Clear gold in colour. Good hop flavours but spoiled a bit by warm temperature. |
Titanic - Plum Porter | 4.90 | Not Tried
15 Jul 2018 (Stephen Harris)
Late evening visit. Pub quiet.
Titanic - Plum Porter | 4.90 | | Faultless. |
Big Penny (formerly Truman's) as of late 2022 contract brewed - Scorcher | 4.20 | | Golden in colour and supposedly a ‘grapefruit edition’, although challenging hop flavours are a bit difficult to spot. |
26 Jun 2018 (Stephen Harris)
Late-evening visit on the way home from a day in Brussels.
Big Penny (formerly Truman's) as of late 2022 contract brewed - Two Halves | 4.20 | | A really nice, fruity, golden, Session IPA. Probably contains Truman’s entire hop budget for the summer of 2018. |
Big Penny (formerly Truman's) as of late 2022 contract brewed - Zephyr | 4.40 | | Tasted a little bit rough tonight. |
East London (ELB) - Pale Ale | 4.00 | Not Tried
23 Jun 2018 (Stephen Harris)
Pit-stop visit at the end of a long weekend. Staff now give me a CAMRA discount here unprompted.
Big Penny (formerly Truman's) as of late 2022 contract brewed - Zephyr | 4.40 | | A big smack of hops. Still Truman’s best beer in my opinion. |
Signature Brew - Roadie - All-Night IPA | 4.30 | Not Tried
21 May 2018 (Stephen Harris)
Arbor Ales - Mosaic | 4.00 | | The full Mosaic. |
East London (ELB) - Jamboree | 4.80 | Not Tried
Big Penny (formerly Truman's) as of late 2022 contract brewed - Runner | 4.00 | Not Tried
13 May 2018 (Stephen Harris)
Mid-evening and it is almost empty in here. A neighbour of mine recognises me and we reminisce about the rough old days of the King Harold pub. Apparently it was very busy here earlier, and there is only one cask beer left.
Hammerton - N7 | 5.20 | | This is on tip-top form and I linger for a couple. |
02 May 2018 (Stephen Harris)
In twenty-five years of occasional usage of this pub I have never seen it so crowded as it was tonight during the televised Roma v Liverpool match. I had no idea there were so many Scousers living in Leyton.
Wild Beer Co. - Bibble | 4.20 | | A very tired pint – on its last legs I suspect. |
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 3.40 | Not Tried
