Unexpectedly busy in the early evening with office workers having Christmas drinks. I say unexpectedly as I am at a loss to think of where they might have come from, Leyton not being noted for its offices.
Three Sods - Trade Union4.50AcceptableI have a stinking cold and this beer comes over as almost tasteless – it would be churlish though to mark it as ‘poor’ as the fault is almost certainly mine, not the beer’s.

Here in mid-evening for a meal and lucky to get a table. TV football and Pub Quiz night have filled the place out.

I watched the second half of the Spurs v Barca match in here on the TV. I don’t watch much televised football, but enjoyed what I saw of this game. Notable that the majority of customers were cheering for the Catalans, not the north Londoners.
Three Sods - Session IPA4.40ExcellentPale gold and hazy. Crisp and light, with good hop character. Nothing like the pint of the same name that I drank here recently – I wonder what that one was.
Sharp's - Doom Bar4.00Not Tried

A flying visit, just to catch the last ten minutes of the Liverpool v PSG match here on TV. A good crowd in to watch it.
Three Sods - Session IPA4.40GoodGolden and more malty than I had remembered it.

A comfort break stop on the way home that developed into a couple of pints. Pub surprisingly busy at 10:30pm. No escaping the conclusion that there was a much better atmosphere and tastier beer here than at two City pubs visited earlier.
Signature Brew - Solo: Hallertau Blanc5.00Excellent- A really good showcase for this relatively subtle and unchallenging hop variety.
Purity - Pure Gold3.80Not Tried

Fairly late in the evening for a quick one.
Signature Brew - Solo: Azacca5.00ExcellentA golden, single hop beer. Perfect condition really emphasises the hop character.

About the Leyton Star

The pub sign. Leyton Star, Leyton, Greater London

Summary of Beer Scores

The pub is found in Leyton, Greater London, E15 2BX.

This pub was established in 1887 as the King Harold, replacing the former Grenadier, which had stood further north in Leyton. It was a Savill Brothers pub (the local brewery at the time), eventually passing to Charrington’s. By the turn of the twenty-first century this pub had acquired an exceedingly seedy reputation. To nobody’s surprise, it eventually closed in 2015, but re-opened in July 2016 as the Leyton Star, much refurbished and beautified. It occupies a street corner position, close to Leyton tube station. A large single bar with an upstairs function room (formerly used as a gym). Rear garden. Four handpumps on the bar. CAMRA discount available.

We have visited this pub 71 times, seen 73 different beers and tried 50 of them.
