Visits Details 05 Sep 2009 (McGargle)
Really busy late evening. Pleasant atmosphere.
Deeside - Talorcan 4.50 Jet black porter. Mild lactic taste from whey in the brew. Soft in the mouth with well balanced flavours - almost a strong mild.
30 Aug 2009 (McGargle)
Busy. Lot of big screen sport but easy to find a quiet corner.
Deeside - Brude 3.50 Straw coloured hoppy summer style ale. Full bodied for its strength perhaps coming from local oatmeal in the grist. Houston - Black & Tan 4.30 Not Tried Deeside - Lady Macbeth 3.70 Not Tried Brewed with raspberries and oatmeal.
20 Aug 2009 (McGargle)
Curry night so busy. Service quick and friendly.
Butcombe - Gold 4.40 Lively golden colour, nice long lasting head. Hoppy aroma with unusual sugar and spice taste. Not really for me. Nethergate (was Nethergate Growler for a while then name reverted) - Essex Border 4.80 Could have been the Butcombe Gold but not so sweet. Too much spice not enough malt.

After a long run of beers from interesting micros it was disappointing to see the bar dominated by national blands.
Deeside - Nechtan 4.10 Another new ale from Deeside. Light and hoppy with lasting citrus aromas. ABV not noted. Deeside - Macbeth 4.10 Not Tried

9 pumps working on a busy early evening.
York (now brewed by and at Black Sheep) - Guzzler 3.60 Golden ale with a crisp, refreshing bite. Served in fine condition. £1.65. Deeside - Macbeth 4.10 Served too green for my taste this time.
21 Jun 2009 (McGargle)
Sharp's - Eden Ale 4.40 The ultimate offend no one, bland pint with no distinguishing characteristics except a vaguely sour note. Head quickly collapsed to lace.
19 Jun 2009 (McGargle)
Busy hum: quick service.
Oakham - White Dwarf 4.30 Initial 'what's that?' bitterness which quickly mellows to a more fruity mix and a long, dry finish. Body that you'd expect from a wheat beer. £1.65. Burton Bridge - Burton Porter 4.50 Served in good condition but lacking the depth and complexity I'd expect from a porter. £1.65.
18 Jun 2009 (McGargle)
Quick and friendly service early evening.
Mordue - Radgie Gadgie 4.80 Well balanced. Plenty of fruit and malt with a lingering bitter finish. Deeside - Macbeth 4.10 Outstanding hoppy ale with cascade and (I think)fuggles. Unusually, not on best form tonight, cardboard overtones.
