17 Oct 2009 (Ian)
Did a bit of a wander whilst I was waiting for some other people to turn up for a quickie in the evening.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hop Back - English Hop Medley4.00AcceptableGold, bit of farty aroma. Some pale malt in the mouth. Decent condition. Not enough hop up front, but the hop on the finish makes it quite interesting. Finishes a lot better than it starts. Some sherbert hop and a bit of hop sting.

BeerABVScoreNotes
Harviestoun - Hoptoberfest4.00GoodGood citrus hop character and balance. My score 15/20.
Salopian - Zeppelin5.10AcceptablePale strong bitter. Peppery, spicy hop taste and a wheaty malt flavour. Not to my taste. My score 12/20.
13 Oct 2009 (Ian)
Tuesday early evening and not very busy, got served right away.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Harvey's - Star of Eastbourne5.50ExceptionalAwesome. I so love this beer. Lovely in every part of it.
Salopian - Zeppelin5.10AcceptableGold, lasting ivory head. Some odd toffee and then very hoppy finish. An odd beer. The lightness of a golden ale, the toffee of a premium bitter and the hops of an IPA. Bizarre.

BeerABVScoreNotes
Blindmans - Yogi Beer4.20GoodSurprisingly hoppy beer from this brewery with a good citrus kick and good balance. My score 15/20.
Castle Rock - Warbler4.90AcceptableServed too cold, dull and uninspiring which is unusual for this brewery. My score 12/20.
29 Sep 2009 (Martin the Mildman)
BeerABVScoreNotes
Daleside - Autumn Leaves3.40GoodChestnut coloured bitter, fairly sweet to start then a drier finish. My score 15/20.
Church End - Einstein A Go Go5.00AcceptableVery hoppy and pale, peach and other citrus flavours suggest a mix of new world hops in this. Bit too hoppy for my taste and I suspect one of the hops used is Sorachi. My score 12/20.
22 Sep 2009 (Martin the Mildman)
BeerABVScoreNotes
Northumberland - The Little Waster4.30AcceptableLike drinking cold coffee, all roast malt and little else. My score 12/20.
Epicurus Craft Beer (formerly Hornbeam) - Pub Pilgrim4.00AcceptableQuite bitter, not very well balanced and with a very dry finish. My score 14/20.
08 Sep 2009 (Martin the Mildman)
BeerABVScoreNotes
Acorn - Mittlefruh IPA5.00GoodGood hop character to this, slightly grassy, quite bitter. My score 15/20.
08 Sep 2009 (Ian)
Just popped in to see if there was anything I really wanted to drink and saw a Dark Star beer, so ordered a half and ended up sat next to Warren, BeerSensei, who was over from New York and had just watched Alls Well That Ends Well at The Globe. We chatted for half an hour about Shakespeare and his use of the supernatural in his plays. Fairly unusual for a pub conversation, but I really enjoyed it.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Dark Star - Golden Gate4.50GoodThe half disappeared before I knew it. Had the necessary Dark Star hoppiness with a bit of warming malt. Would have drunk this all night.
01 Sep 2009 (Martin the Mildman)
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wadworth - Stronginthearm Ale4.00GoodLots of grainy malt in this but few hops, giving a sweetish, cereal tasting biscuity beer. My score 15/20.
Daleside - Bobek Export5.00GoodSweetish and malty but no trace of Bobek hop which is a very distinctive Styrian type. My score 15/20.
18 Aug 2009 (Martin the Mildman)
Busier than usual for a Tuesday evening.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Pictish - Black4.40ExcellentRuby/black porter style beer with a lot of hop character but also a strong roast coffee malt flavour. Very strong coffee aroma. My score 16/20.
Salamander - Garden of Eden3.80AcceptableHazy, nearing the end of barrel as went off soon after. Still the trademark pale bitter with a hoppy, citrus taste with little malt balance that is the trademark of this brewery. My score 14/20.
Ramsbury - Barmy Army3.70AcceptableFarily dry and bitter golden beer. My score 14/20.
Piddle (Dorset Piddle) - Yogi Beer4.90AcceptableFairly dry copper coloured premium bitter. My score 14/20.

Famous pub opposite Borough Market in Stoney Street. Central bar has many beers which change on a regular basis and are mostly from UK micros. Can be extremely busy. Refurbishment some time ago and now there is one main room with a side area with seating as well. Many customers use the pavement outside to stand and enjoy their drinks. Really a must for anyone taking in London pubs. Sports 12 handpumps with 6 in each of the 2 distinct bar serving areas plus a further 4 for cider dispense at the far rear. Upstairs restaurant bar area too, mainly for lunchtime use. In 2019 the real ale choice was drastically reduced to 4 and the cider was withdrawn. Downstairs toilets.
