20 Oct 2013 (Stephen Harris)
Not a pub I would normally visit, but I am persevering for now with the Wetherspoon Festival list. Sunday evening and the full array of local life is present. We twice move tables; once to an area where the air is less blue, the second time after somebody from one table pinches a plate of food from a neighbouring table and a confrontation flares up. Perhaps I’m just too sensitive?
Banks's - Harpoon Brewery Harpoon IPA | 5.90 | | Really good, traditional-style IPA I thought. |
Wychwood (now brewed at Banks's) - 21st Amendment Brewery American Bitter Red | 4.40 | | Red/brown in colour. Disappointingly thin. I couldn’t taste the US hops in this at all. But over-chilled here and possibly near to barrel end. I don’t think I was tasting it at its best. |
Batemans - Hazelnut Brownie | 6.30 | | Dark, strong and over-flavoured. The Tasting Notes promise ‘subtle flavours of cinnamon and Belgian chocolate’. This is a use of the word ‘subtle’ with which I am not familiar. |
Greene King - Ruddles Best (was 3.7%) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Moorhouse's - White Mist | 4.20 | Not Tried
Titanic - Cappuccino | 4.50 | Not Tried

06 Aug 2012 (Philip Pirrip)
2200 hours visit to Greenwich to see how it is coping with Olympics equestrian events. What a chance for 'Spoon's to showcase the wide range of UK real ales but what did I find but, of the 10 handpumps, 5 either with no clip or a clip strangely quarter-turned to indicate no go. See below for the otherwise exciting range offered to an international audience.
Adnams - Lighthouse | 3.40 | | In good nick and flavoursome for this 3.4%er |
Greene King - Abbot | 5.00 | Not Tried
Greene King - Ruddles Best (was 3.7%) | 3.40 | Not Tried | Available on 2 of the 5 active handpumps |
Adnams - Gunhill | 4.00 | Not Tried
