There's an eclectic mix of customers in this pub. There was the ususal group of old boys chewing the fat, a couple of American tourists and a few student types. The manager however, runs a pretty tight ship and when we arrived he was in the process of very politely telling some customer sat the bar to drink up and leave. He seemed to be expressing his homophobic opinions rather too loudly and was upsetting the barmaids (amongst others)!
| St Austell - Tribute | 4.20 | | Not bad, a bit flabby perhaps. Some hop bite on the end. Drinkable but tired. |
| Clark's (sometimes shown as Westgate Brewery) - Classic Blonde | 3.90 | Not Tried | |
| Adnams - Southwold Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried | |
27 Feb 2009 (Ian)
Sat by the window reading The Times, listening to the builders at the next door table who had just finished work.
| Fox (Leeds) - Mr Tod | 4.20 | | Gold, slight haze, thin beige head. It’s a lightish slightly fruity bitter. Not too exciting. |
| Thwaites - Lancaster Bomber (please now use the Banks's entry) | 4.40 | Not Tried | |
| Adnams - Southwold Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried | |
| Marston's - Young's London Original (was Bitter) - previously brewed in Bedford and at Wychwood then Banks's | 3.70 | Not Tried | |

Decent pub, bit on the touristy side, but a favourite of mine. Sat at bar with hops, fire and candlelight.
| Titanic - Anchor | 4.10 | | % Copper thin beige head. OK condition. It’s a decent bitter, good malts and hop, don’t get me wrong, but I’ve drunk execellent beer all day. Decent bitter, some white pepper hop. |

A right motley crew of customers in here (which is good), ranging from uni students to a few old men who were the worse for wear. Good atmosphere and this is a Canterbury pub that's worth a visit.
| Adnams - Southwold Bitter | 3.70 | | The beer range here isn't great but this was fine. Standard session ale. |

I was passing and it was open - I don't need much more of a reason than that. A few old boys were in having a quiet pint so I sat at the bar and drunk my beer. This is a nice friendly pub with a relaxing and attractive interior.
| Marston's - Young's London Original (was Bitter) - previously brewed in Bedford and at Wychwood then Banks's | 3.70 | | Faint whiff of vinegar on the aroma and the beer tasted a bit lack lustre |
| Greene King - Abbot | 5.00 | Not Tried | The guest beer |
| Badger (Hall & Woodhouse) - Flowers Original (subsequently contract brewed at Brains) | 4.40 | Not Tried | |
| Adnams - Southwold Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried | |
23 Feb 2008 (Ian)
Pub number 4 on our scout round of city centre pubs.
| Saltaire - Amarillo (was Amarillo Gold) | 4.50 | | Gold with disappearing white head. Some amarillo. It’s a bit sherberty in mouth. Standard golden/blond beer. Not great condition. Bit of sweaty sox. Probably better when 100% fresh, but I would still want a lot more hops thrown at it. |

This is an excellent pub. Hops all over the place, no juke box and plenty of well meaning folks around. Sat with Ian at a little table to the side.
| Saltaire - Amarillo (was Amarillo Gold) | 4.50 | | Golden colour. Sharp musky earthy rich hops with a long rich bite |
| Badger (Hall & Woodhouse) - Flowers IPA (subsequently contract brewed at Brains) | 3.60 | Not Tried | |
| Adnams - Southwold Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried | |
| Marston's - Young's London Original (was Bitter) - previously brewed in Bedford and at Wychwood then Banks's | 3.70 | Not Tried | |

Busy with people eating but we got a seat at the front. Plenty of hops hanging from the ceiling. Good relaxed feel to the place
| Marston's - Young's London Original (was Bitter) - previously brewed in Bedford and at Wychwood then Banks's | 3.70 | | A good, slightly creamy pint with a mellow bitterness. Quite drinkable |
| Marston's - Wychwood Hobgoblin IPA (was Ruby Beer, was Hobgoblin) | 4.50 | Not Tried | |
| Badger (Hall & Woodhouse) - Flowers Original (subsequently contract brewed at Brains) | 4.40 | Not Tried | |
20 May 2007 (Ian)
Quite busy last Sunday afternoon. New managers I think. 3 regular beers and 1 guest.
| Marston's - Young's London Original (was Bitter) - previously brewed in Bedford and at Wychwood then Banks's | 3.70 | | Not as good as the last time I was here. |
| Badger (Hall & Woodhouse) - Flowers Original (subsequently contract brewed at Brains) | 4.40 | Not Tried | |
| Batemans - Valiant | 4.30 | Not Tried | |
| Adnams - Southwold Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried | |
10 Mar 2007 (Ian)
Late Saturday evening and there was a good atmosphere in here, some locals, some tourists. Friendly barmaid.
| Marston's - Young's London Original (was Bitter) - previously brewed in Bedford and at Wychwood then Banks's | 3.70 | | Best pint of this that I have had since the brewery moved to Charles Wells. Full and wide mouth feel, excellent grainyness and a good dose of bitterness on the end. Looks as though they have got it right at last. |
