Busy footfall for last 30 minutes of serving with some of the regular Friday regulars in.
Mighty Oak - Saxon Strong | 6.50 | | Superb head and lacing! A caramel-sweetish first hit and, yes, a hint of toffee as in tasting notes and very moreish. |
Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - The Pardoner's Ale | 3.80 | | Still holding on well with head and lacing. A subtle hoppy, fruity lingering mouthfeel. |
Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - Jester | 4.80 | | Also still holding on well, head and lacing-wise, from first sampling on Tuesday. A real bite to it in taking the first sip. A very moreish mouthfeel with an oily, hoppy aftertaste and with a moderate bite still on last drop tasted. |
Goacher's - Real Mild Ale | 3.40 | Not Tried
Staggeringly Good - Thai-Ranno Citrus IPA | 4.00 | Not Tried
360° - Bluebell Sussex Best Bitter | 4.30 | Not Tried

24 Oct 2024 (Hogan Sampling)
Busy footfall for last 40 minutes of serving and with some club members in from their meeting place across the road.
Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - Jester | 4.80 | | Superb head and lacing still from first trying this on Tuesday. First hit was a very dry hoppy mouthfeel and not overly fruity in the aftertaste. |
Goacher's - Real Mild Ale | 3.40 | | Holding its head and lacing well also from Tuesday. Chocolatey in flavouring with a pleasant bitter aftertaste. |
Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - The Pardoner's Ale | 3.80 | | Good head and lacing. Slightly fruity with a pleasant hoppy mouthfeel. |
Iron Pier - Challenger Joined at the Green Hop (2024) | 4.20 | | In good shape with head and lacing to begin with. Lightly fruity and a lingering hoppiness. |
Staggeringly Good - Thai-Ranno Citrus IPA | 4.00 | Not Tried
Iron Pier - Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried
24 Oct 2024 (Philip Pirrip)
Late evening visit until close.
Iron Pier - Challenger Joined at the Green Hop (2024) | 4.20 | | Not the tastiest of green hoppers I have had this season |
Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - Single Hop Jester | 4.80 | | Lost some condition since Tuesday but still good |
Goacher's - Real Mild Ale | 3.40 | Not Tried
Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - The Pardoner's Ale | 3.80 | Not Tried
Staggeringly Good - Thai-Ranno Citrus IPA | 4.00 | Not Tried | A vicious citrus (lime)-juicer by all accounts |
Iron Pier - Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried
22 Oct 2024 (Hogan Sampling)
Quiet for last 30 minutes of serving despite it being a very clement, mild evening. A few regulars in and regular fiddlers' club out the back.
Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - Jester | 4.80 | | Superb head and lacing. A very hoppy, moreish mouthfeel with a touch of sweet fruitiness in the aftertaste. |
Goacher's - Real Mild Ale | 3.40 | | A creamy head and lacing restored after some 30 minutes of being served this in decanting. A touch of chocolate in the malty flavouring. |
Mighty Oak - Jake the Snake | 4.00 | | Marked as 4.1% on the publican's tasting notes. Good head and very long-lasting lacing. Lack-lustre in flavouring with a slightly sweet but pleasantly dry aftertaste. |
Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - The Pardoner's Ale | 3.80 | | Good head and lacing. A very dry, moreish aftertaste and lightly spicy and fruity in flavouring. |
Iron Pier - Bitter | 4.00 | | Not a lot of head and no lacing which is not good for only its 2nd day on. Rather murky also in appearance. A bitter mouthfeel as you might hope to expect and with the odd spicy hint. An earlier Iron Pier bitter a few weeks back here also failed to impress. |
Marble - Every Street | 4.30 | Not Tried

20 Oct 2024 (Hogan Sampling)
Busy footfall for last 40 minutes of serving with the playlist theme being any music appertaining to Australia.
Oakham - Green Devil IPA Cask Aged | 6.00 | | Good head and lacing. Very moreish first mouthfeel. Slightly fruity with some tropical notes in its flavouring and a resinous aftertaste. |
Disruption IS Brewing (sub-brand of Ascot) - Shadow of Darkness - Biscoff | 5.00 | | On first sipping a "Cor!" comes in handy to react to a slightly sharp mouthfeel. Mildly chocolatey but not sweet in flavours. |
Marble - Every Street | 4.30 | | Good head and lacing. Lightly fruity and moreish. |
360° - Cruel Summer | 4.00 | | Not a lot of head and lacing. If you like peach flavours, you would not be disappointed but for me a bit like a fruit juice to the palate. |
Track - Sonoma | 3.80 | Not Tried
Little Monster - Yul | 4.60 | Not Tried
Renegade (sub-brand of West Berkshire then became name when West Berkshire went under) - Good Old Boy | 4.00 | Not Tried

19 Oct 2024 (Hogan Sampling)
A very late arrival due to Saturday's trains across much of London having a day or even weekend off running, no DLR, no Piccadilly, no Jubilee and no Thameslink to name the ones I knew about, but busy for last 7 minutes of serving when finally got here from Northolt. The governor's birthday and so regulars sang Happy Birthday on his leaving the premises in the hands of a staff member to close.
Renegade (sub-brand of West Berkshire then became name when West Berkshire went under) - Good Old Boy | 4.00 | | Came with head and some lacing. But this soon evaporated and so multiple decanting became necessary for the other two served. It was fresh on today. A very malty and slightly sweet mouthfeel with a dry, bitter aftertaste. |
Track - Sonoma | 3.80 | Not Tried
Oakham - Green Devil IPA Cask Aged | 6.00 | Not Tried
Disruption IS Brewing (sub-brand of Ascot) - Shadow of Darkness - Biscoff | 5.00 | Not Tried

18 Oct 2024 (Hogan Sampling)
Not busy at all for a Friday late evening from 10.30pm onwards for serving. A lot of usual Friday regulars not there.
Oakham - Green Devil IPA Cask Aged | 6.00 | | Certainly the best in condition on this visit. A foaming head and lacing. A very sweet first hit with a pleasantly hoppy and dry mouthfeel. Second sip and almost a punch you would have been proud of in a boxing ring. Very moreish and made me go "Cor!, Cor!" rather than "More!, More!" despite being highly moreish. A pleasantly sweet and fruity aftertaste. |
Goacher's - Special House Ale | 3.80 | | First one presented with excellent head and lacing. It was lightly hoppy in the mouthfeel and new to me this one, a cross between their Fine Light and Best Dark from the tasting notes. |
Kent - Local Hero | 3.40 | | Full of head and lacing. A pleasure to behold. A very fruity and hoppy lingering mouthfeel for this light-weight at just 3.4%. Got it at same time as the Oakham Green Devil to finish with and took a sip from both at the same time to determine who was who and this one nearly had me fooled until next taking a sip from the Green Devil! |
Goacher's - Special House Ale | 3.80 | | Do not know what happened to the 2nd one some 15 minutes later as this was fresh on today but they open on Friday at 2pm so perhaps almost the last out by this time in the late evening. No head or lacing suddenly on the 2nd one. Still a mildly hoppy mouthfeel. Moved onto something else new on after this. |
Oakham - Reaper's Wish | 4.50 | Not Tried | Been on too long to try again! |
Only With Love - Herbert | 4.10 | Not Tried
Castle Rock - Sundown | 4.30 | Not Tried
17 Oct 2024 (Hogan Sampling)
Busy footfall for last 40 minutes of serving.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Green Hop Ale (2024) | 4.80 | | Good head and lacing but minus some of the dry hoppy mouthfeel of my earlier visit on Tuesday. |
Only With Love - Herbert | 4.10 | | Good head and lacing. I guessed the fruit flavouring in it as in peach before looking at the tasting notes. |
Castle Rock - Sundown | 4.30 | | In good condition. Hugely fruity. A slightly medicinal mouthfeel and so one sufficed and with a bitterness lingering. |
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 5 | 4.40 | | Been on too long as in 5 nights, although some head for a short while. A malty bitterness persisted but also a slight sourness giving it a somewhat medicinal mouthfeel. One sufficed. |
Oakham - Reaper's Wish | 4.50 | | Good head and lacing but a slight vinegary mouthfeel in this dark ale. I could though taste the spicy berry and woody hop flavouring. |
360° - Tacoma | 3.90 | Not Tried
