Definitely the place to be in this heatwave -over 30 degrees outside at least 10 degrees less in here. Early evening - a few in.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - Foundry Torpedo4.50ExcellentThis is so well balanced - delicious.
Canterbury Brewers - Half Nelson3.50GoodIn your face Nelson hops - great taste initially - but a bit severe on the longer term.

Quiet mid afternoon, had a very interesting and informative chat with Tom. Learnt a bit about dry hopping and aeration.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - Half Nelson3.50ExcellentVery pale, crisp and fresh, amazing for the ABV. Nelson hops to the fore.

Isabel was at a friend's house so Jane and I could go for a relaxing afternoon out. The pub wasn't too busy but it was friendly and the patio was warm.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - Foundry Torpedo4.50GoodRight at the end of the barrel but lots of burnt rubber and peanut on the finish with slightly syrupy body and plenty of leafy hop bite.

Mid evening - a few in chatting at tables. Wifi good.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - Foundry Man's Gold4.00ExcellentBright and lively with a good hoppy bite - that's better than the Torpedo tonight.
Canterbury Brewers - West Coast IPA5.60GoodHad to try this after my recent travels - even though it's on tap. Ok crisp, bitter and hoppy - and a good representation of what our American cousins are brewing. But no subtlety of course.
Canterbury Brewers - Reverence4.50GoodHad a taster but rather malty for me. Brewed here but badge also mentions the Serendipity Brewing Company.
Canterbury Brewers - Foundry Torpedo4.50AcceptableA little cloudy and tasted a little soapy - not at its best.

Busy - partly due to the eight people who had just left the Cherry Tree. Other beers as per Sunday visit except Christmas Pudding Ale.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - Trappist East6.00GoodGood example of a Belgian style beer - nice kick.
21 Dec 2014 (Jack William)
Sunday lunchtime - moderately busy - popped in to pick up a couple of 5L casks for Xmas.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - Foundry Torpedo4.50ExcellentFirst rate.
Canterbury Brewers - Christmas Pudding Ale4.60GoodLighter in body and colour than I expected - but a distinct Xmas pud flavour. Pleasant.
Canterbury Brewers - Seriously Saison4.50GoodOnly had a taster of this - hints of cinnamon.
Canterbury Brewers - Foundry Man's Gold4.00PoorI did not try this - but two separate drinkers brought back pints to be changed - very cloudy - and barrel was then changed. Disappointing that in this haven of good ale two pints could have been served up without the bar staff noticing.

Quite full but very cold. It's a harsh pub to be in on a cold winters night.

Brewery tap for Canterbury Brewers. The brewery is inside the building and may be viewed through an internal window. Upstairs and ground floor bars with the latter always open. 7 handpumps sported in each of the 2 bars. Substantial discount on real ales for Card carrying CAMRA members - at April 2013 this was 10% on own brewed beer - ask if there is a discount on food too as this is allegedly 10% too. Consists of two bar areas - one downstairs adjacent to the brewery and another up some steps to a mezzanine level. Originally located in White Horse Lane near the Cherry Tree pub. In addition to its excellent home brewed ales the pub is getting a reputation for tasty and good value food. Moved in October 2018 to a new location in Stour Street "lock stock and barrel".

We have visited this pub 144 times, seen 99 different beers and tried 74 of them.
