Having been further inspired by Martyn Hillier's micropub revolution, the team that run the Lifeboat in Margate have opened Thanet's latest micropub. Having been talking about this pub in Martyn's micropub (the Butcher's Arms) the day before, and not wanting to take him away from the Olympics today, I thought I'd try this place out. I liked it. I liked the fact that it still had all the books from the old bookshop and yet was called the chapel - making it slightly enigmatic. I recall Blair saying that the books wouldn't be staying, but I think it would be a shame if they all went. Anyway, there were still a few workmen in so it'll be interesting to see what it's like in a few weeks.

The pub is found in Broadstairs, Kent, CT10 1LX.

Formerly the Albion bookshop this is now converted to a pub. From the same stable as The Lifeboat in Margate. Real ales from handpump. When first opened this was served from gravity behind a trestle table bar by the stepped entrance but this was subsequently converted to an L-shaped rough plywood bar counter. In 2016 cask ale dispense was converted to handpumps. At the time of opening the venue remained a bookshop too with all books marked for sale. Drinking on several levels including a staircase up to the balcony. Now has 8 handpumps and large array of keg taps on a more formal fixed bar counter.

We have visited this pub 41 times, seen 70 different beers and tried 38 of them.
