12 Feb 2013 (McGargle)
Quiet in the bar. Some chat: some football.
Cromarty - Hit The Lip | 3.80 | | Inviting hop presence on the nose carried forward to a new world hop flavour and a satisfyingly dry, moreish finish. Similar to Dead Pony Club but more restrained. |
07 Feb 2013 (McGargle)
Humming. Jazz in the main room and a private party in the bar. 10 minute wait whilst casks were changed.
Cromarty - Happy Chappy | 4.10 | | Beer of the evening. Light and hoppy. Bitter and moreish. |
31 Jan 2013 (McGargle)
Packed for Jim Rotondi/Eric Alexander quartet.
Orkney (Sinclair) - Raven Ale | 3.80 | | Competent (just). See earlier comments. |
24 Jan 2013 (McGargle)
Musicians spilling over from the function room gave a livlier than usual atmosphere.
Orkney (Sinclair) - Latitude Pilsner (Atlas range) | 3.60 | | Unassuming but pleasant enough. Served cold enough for a cask pilsner. |
19 Dec 2012 (McGargle)
Overspill from folk night into the bar. Surprisingly, no local custom.
Orkney (Sinclair) - Raven Ale | 3.80 | | No pump clip - some flint, some light hopping limited body. |
13 Dec 2012 (McGargle)
Busy for the last jazz night of the season.
Swannay (formerly Highland) - Orkney IPA | 4.80 | | Lacking in hops and body for a 'stronger' beer it was still clean and refeshing. Served from air font. |
18 Oct 2012 (Ray)
Sat in the bar whilst the jazz was on next door.
Orkney (Sinclair) - Latitude Pilsner (Atlas range) | 3.60 | | Clean, crisp and fresh. Drank stronger than 3.6%. |
04 Oct 2012 (McGargle)
Busy in the lounge for excellent jazz from Mario Caribe. Ale a startling £3.50 a pint.
Orkney (Sinclair) - Wayfarer IPA (Atlas range) | 4.40 | | Crisp, hoppy and bitter. |
Orkney (Sinclair) - Corncrake Ale | 4.10 | Not Tried | |
27 Sep 2012 (McGargle)
First night of the new jazz season with Zoe Rahman.
Orkney (Sinclair) - Raven Ale | 3.80 | | Tired. Darker and more malty than I remember. Maybe 2.5* really. |
Cromarty - Happy Chappy | 4.10 | | Much better than the Raven but lacking in body and flavour. Served a little early I suspect. |
11 Jul 2012 (Ray)
Very quiet.
Cromarty - Happy Chappy | 4.10 | | New cask. New World style pale ale with solid mats and subtle hopping. Served through and air font cooler than CAMRA would approve of but a chill helps this beer style. |
Cromarty - Happy Chappy | 4.10 | | End of cask. Tired, yeasty and almost stale. |
